The Bowl's web site is back up and working, some of the log ons were lost. If you would want to race there once again post your comments. I've rattled the tree with them, now it's up to all the other racers to let them know also. The Bowl at one time was a great place to race, with tracks becoming harder to find in this area it could be a fun place to race again.

As Far As I Know, The Status Of Racing Oval At The Bowl Is Where It Has Been For A Very Long Time Now, In The Hands Of The Oval Racers. When Outdoor Racing Was Coming To A Close, We, Yes, The On-road Guys, Sat Around To Discuss Possible Ways Of Getting Some Oval Racing Going This Winter, More Than Once Or Twice. Not To Mention All The Time I’ve Spent Personally Trying To Come Up With Ideas On How To Make It Work And I Am Absolutely Sure That I Am Not The Only One. You See, We Are Not As Single-minded As A Lot Of People May Think We Are.

Jman Made A Very Good Point, This Is A Catch 22 Situation And There Needs To Be A Commitment From Both Sides. If There Are So Many Oval Racers Interested In Running At The Bowl, Where Have They Been? They Certainly Could Have Been Racing Outdoors During The Summer Months, Couldn’t They? Or Is It Just The Indoor Carpet That They Are Interested In? After All, I Believe That The Best Way To Show That You’re Interested In Racing Somewhere Is To Show Up And The Only Time We Saw Oval Racing At The Bowl Other Than The Orl Outdoor Race Was The Week Or Two Prior To That Race.

I’ve Seen A Handful Of Guys Posting On Here (mushroom Bowl's Track Talk)that They Would Like To Race Oval At The Bowl. I’ve Seen About The Same Number On The Hobbytalk Thread Express The Same Interest, A Couple Of Them Saying That They Knew A Few Others. That’s About Ten Or Twelve Racers, Not Including The Three Or Four Guys That A Couple Of People Know. It Would Be Nice If All Interested Racers Would Post Something On Mushroom Bowl's Site So We Could See A Realistic Count Of Hands. Keep In Mind That The Track Rule About Not Using Tire Traction Compund Other Than Hand Cleaner Is A Must! I Heard That This Rule Was Mentioned To Someone Recently And Their Comment Was That They Would Just Treat Their Tires With Traction Compound At Home And Bring Them To The Track In A Ziplock Bag. This Is Not What We Want Either. The Mushroom Bowl Just Made A Huge Investment On New Carpet And We Want To Keep The Carpet Looking And Smelling New For As Long As Possible.

One Thing’s For Sure, You Can’t Make Everyone Happy All The Time, Some People You Can’t Make Happy Anytime, So What We Need To Do Is Find Out What Would Make The Majority Of Racers Happy. I Really Don’t Think That Oval And 1/18th Can Run The Same Night. Sure The Track Rail Stuff Is Easy Enough To Move, But Our Lanes Are Only Six Feet Wide, So We Would Have To Basically Tear The Course Completely Down To Run Oval. Throw Practice Sessions In And You Can See Just How Much Of A Pain It Would Be.

It May Not Be The Racer’s Responsibility To Promote The Track, But When You Enjoy Racing Somewhere As Much As I Enjoy Racing At The Mushroom Bowl, It Just Comes Natural. I Really Appreciate Everyone Spreading The Word About Racing At The Mushroom Bowl. The Mushroom Bowl Is Now, And Always Has Been A Great Place To Race.

RMI - So a different day or time would be needed to make it work?

RMI
11-08-2006, 11:23 PM
Yes, P. C.? Is that you? A different Day or time, the right number of racers to make it work and everyone leaving anything that's been near traction compound at home. A different day would be very tough to do, Bruce has been putting in so many hours at his regular job that after Saturday night is overwith, I think he just hybernates until Monday morning, just to do it all over again.

RMI-I am just trying to see if this is a viable option for the track. If it is not it is OK .With ORL having a race a month you will see us 2-3 weeks prior to the race then we are on to the next track.During the months of Nov.,Dec and Jan.the ORL is not running so we tend to stay at one place.Pottbellies is running a limited oval season this winter with 1 race a month from Nov.-Jan.Is 1 Sunday a month possible at the Bowl?I am not trying to force the track or any of it's people to do anything they don't want to do.I know they have a good Sat.crowd running 1/18 scale and I don't want to do anything to hurt that.Like I said before the locals went out of their way to make us feel welcome when we visited them for the ORL race.I have no problem leaving the traction compound at home.So if you want to run post it on here show the track we are interested and maybe we can work something out.Thank you for your time.

Jman, your point is well taken, and I really appreciate talking about this with level headed thinking, thank you for that. It's just that oval racing at the Mushroom Bowl has been a very touchy subject for many years. I'm not even sure why the oval guys stopped racing outdoors many years ago there, but if there was a consistent outdoor oval crowd, there would be more interest in trying to do something for them during the winter too. They guys that run the track and shop are so busy during the regular work week that Saturday is about the only logical day for racing. Don't get me wrong, it's not that no one WANTS to do it, it's just that Sunday is their only day to do something other than their regular job and racing. The indoor track is small, I'm sure you've seen it. Oval could be run on the carpet, but without having a commitment from quite a few racers, it's just not possible. I wish the building was about 10' wider and we wouldn't have this problem because it would be so easy to run both classes at the same time. Sure the regular crowd at the Bowl are on-road guys, but more than that, they are dedicated racers that show up nearly every single weekend, heck, some of us were oval guys at one time too. We've got guys driving down from Philadelphia and Reading every weekend to run on-road. Together with the regular crowd, we averaged about 30 or more on-road racers every Saturday night last winter. I'm sure you can understand that it's just not good business sense to turn away that many guys for a much smaller number of racers to run oval. No offense meant in any way. I was an oval guy once, still have my oval equipment, now I'm an on-road guy, but more than that, I just love to race. Thank you for your time as well.

Normally, I don’t get involved in thread discussions but I feel that I must speak up. I spent many years racing at the Bowl. I think all the racers there are fun to be with.

My concern is that I never heard of any kind of business that would not like more customers! But let’s get back to the issue of racing oval. I know for a fact, that all the racers had to do was show up on race day if they wanted to race oval outdoors. So that’s not an issue. We should discuss inside racing. Maybe the same philosophy could take place. If not, Friday night or Sunday could work also. I believe that the hobby store is open on Friday but not on Sunday. Maybe Friday nights might be the answer. Maybe the Bowl could have someone come in on Sunday. If there is a reasonable amount of racers, it could financially benefit the hobby store.

So bottom line is oval racers can race at the Bowl. I plan on traveling to the track this Saturday to talk things up. Al Spina

Al, point well made, no business ever wants to turn down more customers and what I have been stating on here and at the Track Talk site is in no way an effort to put to rest the idea of racing indoor oval at the bowl, I was just simply stating facts, getting the cards out on the table. As I mentioned before, I do believe Sunday is out of the question since you would need someone to open up the shop and the track, we've crossed this bridge before with the off-road racing. Now another good point you made is Friday night, the shop is open so why not race? If you come down Saturday night, see what they guys in the shop think about that. One big question still remains, how many guys would you have interested in this? I haven't seen very many hands on either site. Gee Al, you made two good points in one paragraph, that may be a new record for you! Just Kidding. Hope to see you Saturday at the Bowl, take care.

Friday would work for me but almost all the other racers I know have to work till 5 or 5:30 fridays. I however call it the weekend at 5:30 thursday :)

Another idea I have had (unless somebody beat me to it) would be alternate saturdays between the road racers and the oval racers. Either way I REALY HOPE oval makes a comeback at the bowl.............I already have the cream hand cleaner !!!

Well, it’s going to happen! We will have oval racing on Friday nights. There will be 2 heats and a main. First race will be at 7:30p.m. The second race will start at 8:30 and the mains at 9:30. This should give most of us a reason time to get to the track and we should be done at a reasonable time. A schedule will be put together in the next few days and will be posted. The goal is to fill in those voids for the racing junkies. The classes will be 4 cell stock, legends and 1/18 scale. Normal track rules will apply. The ONLY traction compound permitted is hand cleaner! I will ask that we all monitor this rule with our fellow racers. There can be no exceptions. We don’t want one person to ruin it for the rest of us.
