I feel for ya...I'm running a Pavilion a335w and I'm starting to have problems out my rear. It seem like everything I do has no effect. I will probably be going with a whole drive format and start fresh.

How old is the computer?

Maybe a year old. I've got an IBM desktop at the house that is 6 years old and only had to do a re-format once and that was because my son picked up a virus online.
Actually I don't think it's the computer itself but the Windoz software. Things went so much easier with Windoz 3.1 and DOS commands!

Actually that question was for repair_guy lol

But I can give you a piece of general advice that everyone should take. Get rid of Norton or McAffee if you have either and get AVG.

From what you have told us, you might have more problems than what is being revealed to you. I think that it maybe an operating system problem, or some malicious software may have snuck it's way into it. You might call a tech of good reputation and have him/her go through it and see if they can get to the core of it's problems.

goto run type msconfig. Uncheck all the bs thats in the startup thats not important. After that go through your add/remove programs and uninstall anything that doesnt make sense ie spyware programs,searchbars,etc.. download cleanup 4.0 now its 4.5 do a google search and run it. Uninstall any antivirus programs and download avg for free @ www.grisoft.com (http://www.grisoft.com)

Some outstanding couple of programs (that are free) and which I never go without are:

CCleaner (Formally known as Crap Cleaner) www.ccleaner.com
Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

PC Doctor is crap spyware. I suggest CCleaner or Spybot Search and Destroy.

Install AVG or AVAST (I recommend) and scan for viruses. I would also take an look at driver issues, if you get any BSOD's or IRQ errors, that usually points to the RAM. Also, if your computer is overheating due to unsufficient cooling, dust, or crappy thermal paste, that would be another problem. Also take an look at your power supply. An Corsair HX520 will not power an QX6850 with an 680i SLi motherboard with an 1TB HDD and dual G92's in SLi.
