What do you do to maintain your ride between races?

Does anybody have a checklist?I always feel like I am forgeting something.

I am 95% sure there was a thread like this sometime a while back. If you got time, browse through the threads. I am certain that it was sometime back in February of this year.

I tried to search but came up with nothing. I thought it sounded like a topic someone would have covered.

Well lets see, if I can do this without being at the track..........

As soon as a race is over ( 1st heat to 2nd heat)

Look the car over make sure nothing big is happening with it ie..... T Plate broke or bent, tires chunking, body is ok, things of that nature....

Clean the car off either with compressor or motor cleaner........

Clean tires

Spray out motor as long as it was fresh before the last run, if not I take it out and check over it....... if it needs cut I skim it if not clean the comm and brushes and bolt it back in.......

Check the shocks and springs (do they still rebound)

as I am doing all this I am charging the new battery pack up this takes time so you should plan accordingly.....

remove the old pack, leave it for the main or third heat...... couple hours rest basically....

bolt the new pack in, bolt the body on, prep tires and stuff getting ready for the next race.....

Now between racedays, well that is different, total clean the car, rebuild shocks, rebuild motor, care for packs used that weekend, rebuild front end if needed...... true tires

Hope this helps............

Thanks for the input I also check the motor bulkhead screws the bottom one by the t-plate likes to come loose on my L4.I have also had the screws for the t-plate come loose as well.Hit the gas and the car turned RIGHT into the wall. All of that is on raceday I was thinking More along the lines of At home/shop work that needs to be done as you stated at the end of your post.

Well basically do an even more extensive raceday maintenance.............

This time of year when I have absolutely no time to work on cars during the week. I pull them out at the track, rebuild the front ends, put new shock bladders in and throw it on the track.

Normally front ends and shocks are all I do unless I have had a problem on the track that week. If for some reason I take a hard wall pop then the car gets torn down or checked everywhere

My weekely maintinace program consist of a complete tear town and rebuild.. I basically tear it down to nothing and fully rebuild it..

your front end is the main thing you need to rebuild.. Make sure there is little slop, and that everything is smooth and free.. polish the kingpinscheck to make sure they are straight., check the ballsin the arms.. polish the upper arm pins ect.. check the front springs to see if they are still good and show no signs of collapse..make sure front axles are not bent.

i soak all my bearings, then check them either lube or replce as needed..

i dont rebuild my shocks until the night before or the day of the race.. the orings like to expand when sitting to long.. I use vcs shocks.. stil the smoothest in my opinion..

rebuild the center shock make sure there is no air bubbles in it.. godd way to do this is fill the shock all the way and let it sit in some sort of holder for a few hours.. all of the air will rise to the top.. finish putting it back together..

check my t plate, and axle for stress.. take the t plate cups off clean them polish the balls and re install..Rebuild the diff, check spur and otuer bearing.. replace as needed..

take the chassis plate a lay it on a flat surface.. make sure it is still flat..Depending on the car check the crossbrace for straightness..

true all my tire sets again to have them ready to swap on as needed..

check servo and saver, and all other radio gear. cycle packs if needed or if they show lack in performace on race day..

check body and wing for damage.. shoo goo or replace if needed..

Fully rebuild the car making any setup changes i feel need to be made depending on how the car worked the previous race day.. i completely change setup if going to a different track then the previous week..

There i bit more id do as well, but this is the basic rundown..

In between heats I rebuild the shocks, clean the tires, clean the motor, check for any binds or cracks, and clean the rear axle bearings. In between race weekends, I strip the car down to a bare chassis and rebuild the shocks, the motor, the front end, I polish anything that needs polishing clean and lube all bearings, and go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

In the other thread someone said they freeze there motor. How and why would you do this is this the some as using an upside down can of compressed air?

Thanks

you mean co2 compressed air isnt that cold, you freeze motors for better performance and like it also keeps the temps lower throughout the run. it really helps and you can have the same motor for a long time with the same performance cause of this...

Jims litlle black book has some info on this, but I dont have the book anymore. As I recall he says you wouldn't beleive the power difference of a frozen motor.Goes on to say NOT to try this with your batteries.I tried it with my xxx-t but I wasn't at a track to be able to compare real #'s

There is a fellow at our track that does that, or atleast he did last weekend. Pretty interesting, and it sure does cool them little suckers down!

I put one in the freezer but I beleive there is a spray coolant availalble.

The fellow just used air duster in a can, and turned it upside down. It gets the can quite cold!

but nicd's(like any one cares) you can freeze to revive them it works really good!
