What with my do it yourself house renovation project taking priortiy right now; there hasn't been much time to hack up die-casts. I'd never have cut up a good Daytona Cobra. But since HW's saw fit to stagger the wheels on this version I figure the damage was already done. I've always wondered what a Daytona would look like with an AC front. I suppose I'll also see what a Daytona front and an AC rear looks like as well. Still working on the house so don't expect to see anything finished anytime real soon.

uhm wow. Holy crap. Both combos look REALLY GOOD. I want to see them done. :) I love your work as always.

Kinda surprised no one's jumped on this combination yet. If they have I haven't seen it. If I'd seen it I wouldn't be compelled to spend time making one or errr two. Lookin' forward to seeing the coupe myself. Got a couple of neat ideas for the roadster as well.

Neat idea. Looking foward to seeing them completed.

Good luck on the renovation project.

If I'd been willing to cut up a good Daytona casting they would have matched right up...front to back. You can see in the pics how proud the rear secton of the Daytona stands to the front of the AC. It looks the same on the other side. As it is I'll have to do some major fill work to blend the bodies together.

I like it! This is gonna be cool. I think some small fender flares would look good, especially with some big fat rubber. Whatcha gonna do for exhaust pipes?

Great idea to combine these two cars. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

ClearHooter

The exhaust will probably be my guitar string down pipes and polished aluminum tube. You can't really tell by this shot but the front fenders are flared towards the front of the fender but flow back into the body towards the rear.

I've pulled out every set of DUBB's I've got and set them in the wheel wells..... I JUST CAN'T DO IT !!!!!!! :drunk: I know a bunch of y'all love 'em. But they look like Fido's hind quarters on a race car. Looks like the MB rack at Wally's tomorrow if I can get the time.

I'm with ya on the DUBs, too big a wheel and they just don't have the realistic look for a race car. Some of the MB Barrett-Jackson cars have nice white lettered tires.

I used them on this Ford Anglia

That Anglia is great! I've got a couple of those to work with, someday. I'll probably make one of mine look like a stock Anglia. But I can appreciate the custom look on it too.

Hey guys,

We have hundreds of gold plated cars that have slight flaws, which we refuse to sell in our store. You can chop them and combine them with other cars, add custom paint schemes, and you would have some absolutely SPECTACULAR looking customs!

In the coming months, we're going to put together possibly hundreds of other lots like the one pictured here . Some of these other lots may include a few chrome, black nickel, and copper as well. A lot of these cars are a result of early experimentation we did as we were refining our process. These days we produce fewer rejects, so lots like this will become more scarce.

We would really appreciate it if someone could start a new discussion thread on this topic in the Diecast Customizing Forum here on Hobbytalk. If we post ourselves in this forum, it would likely be removed.

In fact, the first one to get the discussion rolling, will receive a lot of five slightly flawed cars (similar to these) delivered at no charge just as a thanks.

Also, can you guys recommend someone who does terrific custom work?

If you guys can nominate someone, and if they're willing to take pictures and describe the process along the way as they build a custom with one of our cars, we'll send that person a small lot of five cars at no charge. Whoever nominates the person will also receive a lot of five cars.

If enough people express interest, we may run a customs contest as well to see who can build the coolest gold plated custom!

Let us know if you have any questions. You can either email us at sales@smokinhotwheels.com, or you can send us a PM here on Hobbytalk. Thanks.

Debbie,

Couldn't find any of the Barrett-Jackson's. Been gobbled up. Did get a good deal on a Miasto JEEPSTER and GRAND CHEROKEE. The Cherokee's got a nice set of 8 spoked wheels. I may have to shave some of the OD of the tire to make them look right but I like 'em.

Never cut up anything plated.

Here's the set of wheels that'll ride on it. The exhaust will be trimmed off and a new one made. Of course they'll be side pipes. Now that I like the wheels I may not skirt the back ones..... Probably won't.

I tried some of the JADA DubCity rims but they looked out of place. For me a car like this needs some meat between the rim and the road.

Those look like wheels from a Masito pickup. I think they look good myself for this custom. Can't really think of anything else that would fit and not look out of place on this custom. Good Work!

Yeah. got 'em off a Miatso Jeep Cherokee. They look like the same thing as the Miatso Porsche 550 Spyder and a couple others. I like those Miatso wheels. They work for a lot of the stuff I do. Got the chassis done last night and fit the interior back in. Had to hack a bit on that as well. I'll get the exhaust pipes on it this weekend sometime and then get it painted. It fits together really well.

Yep, I agree. I think those wheels look better than the chrome 5 spoke I showed ya. They have more of a racing look, especially not being chrome.

It's looking good! Can't wait to see what color you go with. Adding any decals, etc.?

You know i like it...Im thinking of starting one of the new 240z casts. Will be my first venture back into the custom world in about a year.

Been down a couple of days. My next door neighbor cut my service line to the computer. No others just that one. Took two days to get MaBell out here to fix it.

Decals? I thought about it. Just have to see. If I do it'll probaby just be roundels and of course two stripes.

Magoo, I've got the decal sheet laid out for a BSR & a BRE 240Z racing Datsun. But I still have to fill up the rest of the sheet before I print.

Got this one primed and a white base coat. Still need to fix a cuple of places on the fenders and smooth them out. Then I need to stripe it off. I suppose its going back Shelby Blue. Yeah real original, I know.
