View Full Version : Brushless rules?
MIDWESTRC 10-26-2006, 08:38 PM We need to come up with a set of rules for 13.5 brushless that are a standard for all tracks. Our local track stayed with the Roar rules, but the BRL has their own. To keep cost down there should be one standard for all. I know that every track will not follow but it would help out the guy who likes to travel to other tracks.
We have been running in the stock class for 2 years now, we are use to running with a wing and the body cut out. BRL says NO to all of the above. So for us to run at BRL events or tracks that use BRL rules we have to have more bodies painted up, and we will be always changing the setup on the car.Because a winged car will handle totally different then a nonwinged car.Another added cost.
My 2 cents
BallisticBill 10-26-2006, 09:08 PM I have been running the 13.5 class in Omaha. I usually run 4300 but we wanted to see how well these cars would work in the 13.5 class using BRL rules. Our local track has been very flexible as far as the track rules go ,but everyone in 13.5 has taken off the wing and if they did not have a new body the track allowed the back to be taped.
We set my car to strict BRL rules and with a little adjusting from regular stock the car handles great. I have noticed no radical handling problems. I have gotten to like this class and will run it at BRL sanctioned events. As a matter of fact we broke the stock track record and at our next two day event I believe this record will be broken again and again by drivers.
IMO go with BRL rules. There is not much ROAR racing in the Midwest. The BRL rules are easy to understand and makes for some great racing.
Good Luck
TeamGoodwrench 10-26-2006, 09:21 PM Ballistic Bill - I agree 100% - stay with the BRL rules. Nobody around here (Wisc) really cares what ROAR says.
The tracks we are running the 13.5 at (non-BRL races) are running the BRL rules -- I love it. No wing and no rear bumpers cut out -- the cars look great !!!
IndyRC_Racer 10-27-2006, 01:16 PM I have a simple solution to the individuals who want to run the 13.5 class without the rear but don't want to buy a new body for a BRL race.
DON'T THROW AWAY WHAT YOU CUT OUT!!!.
Simple, just cut out the rear in one piece. When you race at a track that requires a rear, make some lexan mounts and attach the rear back in the car. Use nylon screw/nuts and you won't be adding that much weight to the car. This is no different than mounting a rear spoiler really. Should only take 3 points to mount the rear back in. You could use one of the bolts where the spoiler is attached as a mounting point. 1 mounting point on each rear quarter panel and you are done.
McLin 10-28-2006, 12:52 PM OR buy the new body, leave the rear in the car, run the BRL race and when it's over, cut out the rear for your home track!
But I have to say, anyone that won't go to a race because they have to buy a new body, really does not want to go in the first place.
Echeconnee 10-29-2006, 10:29 AM true Lin and the cut out at low speeds like stock carpet racing is not even a factor.
What are the rules for 13.5 so no cut out back and no wing anything else that is diffent? We are just starting to weave in the 13.5 with our 27 stock cars and it looks like thw 13.5 has the avantage.

yuk17bandit 11-05-2006, 11:27 AM i raced my 13.5 for the first time last night at my local track. i was the only car that ran with the brl body rules. i qualified 3rd about 3/4 sec from TQ . car was loose at first but it with a few adjustments the car was easy to drive and just as fast as the next guy with his body cut out and rear wing...
also on this track, this was the first time oval has ever been ran on this carpet. there was no traction , no groove , no wing. but still easy to drive
Hurricane Racer 11-05-2006, 02:21 PM Brian, what track was this?
My $.02:
Whats wrong with having two bodies, and making chassis adjustments per your body config and track config?
I think IndyRC has an ingenious idea. Keep the cutout and make some tabs to replace it. Although I dont know that is legal for an actual BRL race, for tracks that run BRL rules on a weekly show basis, im sure its ok.
We all spend money on tires, traveling, chassis upgrades, new batteries, through an extra $20 plus some paint in and have a backup/second body. What would happen if your main body was damaged at a race?

SHAKY DAVE 11-07-2006, 09:00 PM Have you had any talks with any shop owners or race promoters out here to maybee sanction some races out here?I can see this may be the way to go in the future.

OvalTrucker 11-07-2006, 09:35 PM The biggest difference I found with the 13.5/BRL package was the 3/4" spoiler. At first it produces WAY to much steering. To the point that the car would traction roll if I was not very easy on the wheel. The rear of the body intact was no big deal in my experience.
MIDWESTRC 11-08-2006, 06:13 PM I went ahead and painted up another body per BRL rules, that way we will be legal at other tracks we want to go to. We are just use to running with a wing. We will have to see how it runs without.
TeamGoodwrench 11-08-2006, 06:29 PM Run 13.5 class with NO wing -- it's great ! Takes a little tuning, but that's part of the fun :-)
aracefan3 11-12-2006, 10:46 PM what are you refering to when you say you are running the 13.5?
LARCGuy 11-13-2006, 04:46 AM what are you refering to when you say you are running the 13.5?
The 13.5 is Novak's Brushless Stock motor equivalent. I have not run it, but most say it runs like the best stock motor you ever had.

Amen !! It is an AWESOME motor!!

Dave I think for us down here it would be up to us to campaign the track owners and series promoters to get a brushless class going. Im thinking a 4300 class and I dont think Im the only one interested we just got to show those guys that is what we want to run. If we can get enough guys to run it we can run it everywhere we run in So Cal. At this time there isnt enough brushless guys down here to have a brushless only race. Or even the a 13.5 class here locallly whatever we as racers can come up with. Catch my drift?
