In a lot of slots I picked up this summer was a lone Aurora G+ Indy car. The brushes were long gone, and I'm clueless as to how to replace the springs/brushes without everything flying in 6 different directions. What are the secrets of replacing the brushes in these beasts?

Send it to me and I"ll send ya Xtrac ..lol.. time and practice son. I used to spit on the brush as I pushed it in.. sounds gross but it worked...

You can actually remove the brush holder mechanism as well. So if I am doing it, I take it all apart, leave the holders off, put the armature back on then install the spring and the brush into the holder, then slide the holder up against the arm. It took me a while to figure that one out and it works best for me. Maybe some one else has a better method?

I never took the whole holder off, I'll have to try that. I used a gimmick that was in an old hobby magazine. bend a t-jet gear clamp into a U shape. Snip the ends and taper them a bit. The gear clamp acts as a spring to cover the brushes when putting the arm in or out.
Remove the arm, slide in the spring and brush on one side and put the gear clamp on. Then put the spring and brush on the other side. Reposition the clamp to block both brushes and put the armature back in.
It still isn't easy, but at least it keeps them from shooting out.

I also remove the whole mechanism, but never thought to spit on the brush before puttin it in....will try it the next time I need to.

I also take the brush holder off. I put the magnets and arm back in first and snap the brush holders back in. It works well. Slide the brush against the arm as your sliding the brush holder back into place. If you can do that, the holder snaps right into place.

It takes practice but after you do it once, you'll have it down for good.

i remember the 1st Gplus I bought... (I was probably 12 or 13)
I tried to take it apart and shot one of the brushes across the room.
That was the last G I bought... lol
