Otherwise know as Hogan's Heroes.
We've been watching episodes off and on during dinner, and now, in the middle of season two, I'm convinced it just wouldn't have been a comedy without the sheer genius of John Banner.
Klink's obsequiousness and smarminess isn't all that funny. The plots are generally straight WWII espionage, and the only Allied character who gets many laughs is Newkirk (with Carter coming in a distant second).
But whenever Schultz is in a scene, its all him, baby. The delivery, the mannerisms, the expressions, his pure presence makes every scene he's in pure delight.
Should have named the show after him!
IMHO, YMMV :)
