When the civilan ships were launching from New Caprica, the camera zoomed in on one after the others jumped away. It had a huge Pan Am logo on the bottom of the hull.

Yep...I did! I thought that was kind of a neat tribute to the 2001 Orion (if indeed that was the reason they did it) in any case it was very cool. I think they also had one of the ships that had the Pan Am style logo on it in the pilot when the fleet first jumped away from all the non FTL capable ships.

The PanAm logo is indeed a nod to "2001," and can be fleetingly glimpsed in earlier episodes. We've never seen it this clearly, though.

Gabe Koerner did that mesh (it's one of four variants of the Olympic Carrier design he did when he was doing some work for BSG) - over on TrekWeb he said that the logo says "Pan Gal" or something of the sort. He seemed pretty impressed that anyone noticed. :)
