we are serious race in hong kong and we use 4200mah batt.
I lost 3 esc for half year(they did not burn but lost punch) I never over gear and thermo shut down esc....
I changed to GTB BL 4.5R few months ago and it still happen.....(esc fet degrade lost punch)
some racer said we should not run a complete pack, should stop at 5 mins.
is it true? I think the esc manufacturor should do something on it. I think it is ridiculous.......cheating the customer...... :drunk:

So basically brushless controllers are like the current batteries. Run them for a little while and throw them out. So exactly how does this make brushless cheaper brushed?

gotta be more to the story, if a novak is not thermalling, it should be ok. but i know the mamba maxx controler is able to handle 1000 amps, not 100, its 1000. so that should work well for you.

If you don't like brushless then don't run it! No one is trying to convince you.

Actually I like it a lot. I ran two classes with brushless motors this past outdoor season.
To make my point clearer, I will be more direct and say that it seems like one of the touted advantages of brushless, that it costs less in the long run, may not quite be realized for all users with the current state of technology.

I have known a few people around this area that had them shut down and then burn up. These guys were so excited to just set it and go run, that they forgot to take it out of Lipo mode. Is there a chance that maybe this is why they are blowing up?

I have no problem with my Novak GTB and 13.5 BL stock motor!

Pretty unlikely. The only thing LiPo mode should do is shut it off if the battery voltage drops below 6V. I'm wondering if it's not a problem with the brushed vs. brushless auto-sensing software. If it decides incorrectly which type of motor it's got connected, it could definitely make smoke. The original Sphere didn't have the auto-sensing feature, and I haven't heard nearly as many complaints about it (except when Deano tried to run a 4.5 with it).
