View Full Version : IRS Rocket Rings
Rick Liehr 10-16-2006, 08:08 PM Just wanted to let everyone know these new diff rings from Dave at IRS are great!!!! They stay super smooth. After 2 weeks of running there aren't any groove marks in the rings from the diff balls. Thanks Dave

Glad you like the rings. They have been working better than I expected. We removed almost half the weight.
Keep you eyes open for our new IRS VCS Micro Shocks, they are awesome. Should be ready for shipping within 2 weeks or less. The one I recommend is the nickle coated/teflon impregnated one. After I put over 1.5 hrs. of 1/12th onroad racing it did not change. I later took it apart and the oil was still clear.

Racin'Jason 8 10-17-2006, 06:49 PM Are the 'rocket' rings the same as the ultra-lite rings? If so, everyone NEEDS these! I have been running the ultra-lites for a couple months now and these things are sweet. Great job Dave.

I have been running his new shocks now for about 6 weeks. They have 4 full race days on them(3-4 practice packs along with 3 heats and a main). They are a smooth as the day we built them.I have had no leaks anywhere on these shocks.I will be bringing them to Dave this week for a rebuild(he wants to check the oil)and hope to pick a second pair for my other car(Hint,Hint....).I really don't want to rebuild them(god they are smooth)but he wants to check them out.One thing we noticed with the tighter tolerences of this shock you need to drop 5-10 points on the oil.I went from 35 to 30 could have dropped to 25.
Diff Dude 10-17-2006, 08:08 PM Here is a pic of the nickle coated shock.
Diff Dude 10-17-2006, 08:09 PM Didn't work will try again.

erock1331 10-17-2006, 11:55 PM Are the D Rocket Rings the same ones RIP Motorsports came out with earlier this summer? They look identical but wondered if the material was different.
burbs 10-18-2006, 04:59 AM The IRS rings have been out for a while now.. i saw a post on rc tech about them well over a month ago..

Im going to guess if they all look the same they are.. track attack only sells re bagged items..
MIKE VALENTINE 10-18-2006, 11:33 AM How about adding a small oring, to the insie of the shock collar, like the offroad ones. To keep the collar from rotating when you don't want it to.

fasthocars 10-18-2006, 02:58 PM diff dude
i was just on a european site that had info from the IFMAR 1/12 worlds in italy. there was a mention of a new IRS lite weight axle system that was hollow and the lite rings. is that axle going to be released for 12th or 1/10th pan cars?
thanks
Diff Dude 10-18-2006, 04:37 PM Fasthocars
I plan on producing a hollow axle for 1/10th & 1/12th cars. The testing has gone well. The problem is I'm so far behind on the solid axles that I don't have the time yet.
Dave
So are these part number 2511? Thanks.

You should have plenty of time,I haven't abused a hollow axle in the last couple of months.
Kenwood 10-18-2006, 07:08 PM Cool  Hollow Graphite axle.. That brings back some memories.. I think I still have one in my LYNX2 car...
Cant wait for that one..
Spoiler 10-18-2006, 07:15 PM are the shocks available if so do you have a part number and the price I'll take 2 sets
hankster 10-18-2006, 09:20 PM New corrected picture of the shock
Spoiler 10-18-2006, 09:57 PM what's the big difference between this and the crc brand look the same.....
jman91 10-18-2006, 10:19 PM I am sure Dave will correct me if I am wrong. The inside of the shock body is different. The tolerences are alot tighter. They are making the the shock shafts(no more associated)so they can control the quality.Dave took the best parts of the Silva and CRC shocks and made some additional changes and came up with these shocks.Testing in 1/10 oval and 1/12 on road have proved these to be excellent shocks. They are very consistent run after run and I have had no leaks.
Diff Dude 10-18-2006, 11:16 PM Spoiler,
Our tolerances are tighter and very consistant. The internals are my own design and there are less parts than the other shocks so less to go wrong. We use 7075 aluminum in all the aluminum parts not 6061, this is a much higher grade of aluminum. Our piston is 1 machined piece not an aluminum washer pressed onto a shaft and all of our pistions are nickle/teflon coated. We also will offer a second piston that is 0.005" smaller than the one in the kit for more adjustability. We just got in the nickle coated ones (P/N IRS4044) and have the plain aluminum ones (P/N IRS4040). All the testing so far shows the nickle/teflon ones are the best. I ran mine for more than 1.5 hrs. and when I dissassembled it there was no oil contamination and it stayed consistant the whole time. I could have run it longer but I wanted to see for myself the condition. They are not on our web site yet, we are waiting for the anodized ones to get here, blue, black, & red. If anyone has questions please post them and I will try to answer you ASAP.
Dave
microman14 10-18-2006, 11:27 PM i seen this shock in action last week and cant wait to get a set of blues ones for my silva lid...

Your pistons and shafts are all one piece made of 7075 aluminum?
Diff Dude 10-19-2006, 08:55 AM The pistons are made of 303 stainless steel then nickle/teflon coated.
rickk5 10-19-2006, 09:33 AM Dave, Can You Give Me A Part Number On The Rocket Rings Please!!!
Rick
Bill Johnson 10-19-2006, 10:56 AM Just ordered a BUNCH of them. They're on his site under the "Top Gun" Tab on the left......
Diff Dude 10-19-2006, 11:35 AM rickk5,

Spoiler 10-19-2006, 05:17 PM Dave when they come available I would like 2 sets of the black anodized if possible.....If they don't leak and stay consistent they are what I'm lookin for.....thanks for the info...
Diff Dude 10-19-2006, 05:22 PM Spoiler,
Hope to have the anodized ones next week. I highly recommend the nickle/teflon coated ones but I will sell you what you want. So far not one of the ones we tested leaked :) .
