Yesterday I had two IB3800 packs fail during charging, both were less than six moths old and have been maintained well, also I seldom get to race more than 2 or 3 times a month so these were relatively fresh packs. For me anyway.
I use a Tekin battery Doctor till all the lights go out then charge on a CE GFX35 6 amps .02 cutoff. I run my packs once a raceday and discharge all at the end of the night on the GFX 35 @30amps down to .9 volt per cell then store them till the next race.
Am I doing something wrong? Or do the IB3800s have a shorter life span than the old GP3300s that I have that are still going strong after 2 years?
Guess I,ll be buying new and improved 4200s soon anyway

what do you mean fail?? like stop working or no voltage? it could be the pack came apart???

Humm this seems strange to me. If it was just one pack you pass it off as an oh well these things happen but with two something probably is wrong.
I have EA 3800 IBs that are now a year old that still run strong. They sat most of the summer.
It sounds like you are doing everything right to me. The only thing I do differently is put 500 sec of charge back into them after discharging to to .9 per cell on the DPD.
Are you using the long lockout on the GFX when charging? If not you may be getting a false peak. On charge menu hit page and select long lockout if you don't already know about this feature.

Both packs charged normaly, did not explode or vent when I realized they were taking longer than normal without peaking or even getting warm I stopped the charger ( GFX 35 the mahr was reading in excess of 5000 on both packs ) the packs actually got Hotter just sitting on the bench. I didnt do anything else with them last night had some racing to do.
Yes I,m using the lock out feature but these packs never Peaked at all.

did any of your pack charge? it sounds like it could possibly be the charger and not the packs..

After looking through my battery records these two packs were bought at the same time from the same matcher on June 10th so there basicly 4 months old. These are Top of the line packs from a highly reputible matcher. I,m currently charging the first of these packs ( while watching the Bengal vs Buccaneer game ;) ) to see what happens.

Well the lockout is not the problem I was think they did not peak but you have the opposite problem. Probably the charger if it is happening to all the batteries. If the fuses are bad the charger it should not charge at all but just for laughs and giggles it may be worth checking them to make sure none of them are blown...

I charged a total of 12 packs yesterday ( ran 2 classes plus practice ) Chargers working perfectly. I have been charging one of the packs I had a problem with yesterday on my Pitbull X3 for a little over an hour now
mahr is reading 5280
volts 4.21
amps 6.0
packs not even warm and has not peaked.
Buccaneers 14 Bengals 13 . :35 seconds to go!

I always put 4-500 seconds of charge in all my packs after use. The IB cells will tend to vent/heat up & go flat if you leave them w/o some charge in them. The 4200's are even more sensitive to this than the 3800's.I have also had flux under a bar on 3800 packs that I've ran multiple times cause a pack to do the same thing as you've listed.Try to pry on all your bars & see if thats not the culprit.

Use a voltmeter on each cell... you will find one cell with much lower voltage. Rermove that cell from each pack and make one pack out of the two. You have to put in some charge (500 seconds is popular) before storing or this will happen... the newer the batch of cells the more important this is
