Hello everyone. I found this in my basement a couple of days ago. I forgot that I had it. It is a Mercedes 170V, made by New Millenium Toys. I found this in a WAL-Mart one day and bought it, thinking it was made of plastic. It is actually metal however. Well, the body is at least. The base, which includes the fenders and the bumpers, is plastic. I wasn't sure if this was 1:43 scale or not, so I took it to work with me and made a few measurements with a set of digital calipers. Sure enough, each time I multiplied a measurement by 43, it came out extremely close to one of these specs.
Height61.4 inches Weight2,420 lbs Width61.8 inches Length168.1 inches Wheelbase112 inches
I would show you my measurements, but of course, I left that sheet of paper at work! Oh well.
While this isn't exactly a high end piece of diecast, for five bucks, it isn't bad. I like it. I only wish I could find another one so I could strip it and dress it in civilian clothes.

WOW Zeb!

I've always liked and used to collect German vehicles from WWII. Seeing one again just makes me wonder what ever happened to the ones I had???

Thanks for sharing that one!

When I started my aviation art project a little over 18 years ago, I unfortunately, started buying 1/48 scale models to work from. Several unfortunate things come up with this scale. Size: 1/72 fits more on a shelf than 1/48. Availability: They make more models of different AC in 1/72. Cost: 1/72 is cheaper. Support Vehicles: FUMAN is the only company I know of that makes 1/48 vehicles. Personel: very little to choose from. The only good thing about 1/48 is its easier for older hands to build; and 1/43 to 1/50 actually works well since the two scales flank that 1/48 measurement. I saw that car at Wally's and picked one up. There were several other vehicles that are in that series. It takes a real decerning eye to distinguish between those three scales.

Could you elaborate on your project? What is it you mean by aviation art? DO you draw or paint?

They are all WWII, Aviation, Prismacolor Pencil drawings. Each is based on an actual incident as told to me by an airman or seaman who participated in that action. I try to get aircraft, markings, geography, positioning etc as accurate as 60+ years will allow. Hence all of the originals are considered, by me, to be WIP's. Some drawings have taken as long as two years to "complete."The forgiveness of the Prismacolor Pencil allows me to make changes, even to the first ones, if I find somthing inaccurate in the work. That just can't be done with any other medium. I've probably accumulated around $8,000 to $10,000 of reference materials since this project started; somewhere around early 1989. When a work is "finished" it is co-signed by the airmen involved. Unfortunately time is whittling down my sources as well as guys that become friends after sharing something as personal as an air to air combat. I've been priviledged to work with the likes of Bob Morgan, pilot of the "Memphis Belle." Robert S Johnson, tied for highest ace in the ETO. Joe Rosbert, an original AVG member. Herb "Trigger Long, double ace USMC; as well as a great bunch of guys who "were just doing their job." HEROS......I miss them and appreciate the ones I'm still able to talk with. We're all going to loose something when there are no more.

I don't sell the originals. I take them to schools, airshows, exhibits etc to try and keep alive the sacrifices this generation made so we may enjoy the freedoms we have left. I'll send you a PM about the prints and written accounts if your interested.

There are no better pencils than Prismas. Nothing else can compare. I wouldn't use anything else. I'd love to see your work. If you are interested, I can show you my work too.

That sounds great. I'll try to get my stuff photographed tonight. I don't have much, only a few pieces, and only one in Prisma, but I'll get them together so you can see them. I'm looking forward to seeing your work!

I've done over 30 WWII aviation art originals since I started. I'll PM you a couple of those as well as pics of a couple of my automotive vent glass etchings. I used to have a domaine and a web site that had most of my work on it but the guy that was hosting it had four heart attacks over a 12 month period and he doesn't do much of anything any more. I may leave relm with heal marks; but if I get so bad off I can't function I think I'd just soon check out while I'm ahead. I just haven't got around to setting up another site as of yet. The old farm house renovation has taken up most of my time over the last year. Now that we're about back in, its become a 13 hour a day job. Looking forward to setting up a studio again and geting some more art work and music done. May have noticed I've become a little less prolific with the die cast mods as well. There's only 24 hours in a day and I like to sleep at least 5 of them a night. :freak:

On the original subject. There's also an German amphibious vehicle, a Jeep and something else in this collection. I can't recall what. Maybe a German "VW Thing?"

Zeb41. Check your PM.

Message received, but I couldn't return one because your box is full. Thank you for the pics. Your work is great. Actually, this is what I was trying to send you:
Thanks Clearhooter for the pictures! The work is excellent! You are very good. I like the fact that you take the time to research your subject before rendering it. Many people don't do enough of that. It will be a couple of days before I get my work photographed, but I will get it out there to you. I wish we could sit down and just talk about art, aviation, and cars. That would be nice. Someday, perhaps.
I'll be in touch soon,
Ron
