Macomb County Sheriff's investigators say Michael and Christopher Ulbrik were in a Mustang that crossed the median on Metro Parkway near North Pointe Drive and collided with a second car before rolling over. The accident happened about 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators Michael Ulbrik was driving at normal speed and for some unknown reason sped up and lost control of the car. The 23-year old was thrown from the Mustang. Sheriff Hackel told WWJ the father saw the vehicle leave the road and cross the median. Hackel said the roads were slick at the time of the crash.
The driver of the second car was treated and released from the hospital.
Hackel said alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash. It's unknown if seatbelts were being used.
17-year old Christopher Ulbrik attended Riverside Academy in the L'anse Creuse Public School District. He also attended L'Anse Creuse High School earlier and counselors will be meeting with students.

squeeker138 10-13-2006, 04:14 AM Sorry to hear of the loss of a couple great drivers. I've watched them race a couple times. They will be missed.
Ernie, If I may ask how did this happen?
I don't know what to say. My heart is heavy with sadness for their dad Frank Sr. and older brother Franky. Here in Michigan we watched these two young men grow up to be the champion's that they are. It won't be the same going to a track here and not seeing those three brothers walk in with their Dad.

There will be a deep hole in RC racing not seeing these 2 guys with us. I have raced with them for a long time and they were the best. They were always willing to help a fellow racer get faster and would bend over backwards for you. I remember a time in Akron when I was struggling. I had the same car as Mike did. He took his car over to my pit and said "here, copy my car". He left his car with me for an hour so I could duplicate his setup, and yes it helped alot. I'll never forget that. We will all miss them and they will forever be remembered. To Frankie and Frank Sr. - my condolences.
Dave Zipp

Dale Epp 10-13-2006, 10:39 AM I didn't sleep much last night after reading Ernie's post here on HobbyTalk. I'm saddened to the very core. I didn't know Chris and Mike as well as most of you guys - but my dealings with them were always so pleasant. These were the kind of young men/racers that a guy like me wanted to sponsor. The last time I saw them race was at the 'Birds 06 I was just so impressed with their demeanor on the track as well as off. Chris (who I knew just a little bit better) was just such a nice, humble and respectfull young man. I know he and Mike made Frank Sr. proud as a father. I know they will be greatly missed too.
My sincere condolences go out to the extended family and close friends. To Frank and Frank Sr. - I will keep you in my prayers daily. That's a promise.
Sincerely - Dale Epp - Protoform
