View Full Version : Do you think GL has to have a "spokesman" celebrity?
Mark Hosaflook 10-12-2006, 08:57 AM Seems like every die-cast giant has lined up at least one big name in the auto world to associate with their line. HW's no doubt has had everybody who is anybody at one time or another. JL has had their lion's share too. I've seen some even bring guys back from the dead like Von Dutch who if alive would NEVER agree to doing that type of thing. So do you think................
1. Yeah it's cool to have people like Foose and Coddington's creations redone.
2. Way overrated, some of the fads they created are monstrous
3. OK if done in moderation. Maybe a series.
4. I like the early icons, Dean Jeffries, Darryl Starbird, Bill Hines, Winfield, Cushenberry, guys like that..... give them to me please.
5. Just keep it real, give me good castings and keep the dreams to others.
midtown 10-12-2006, 09:10 AM A spokesman??
hahahha, nah! Waste of $.
madmanmark 10-12-2006, 10:14 AM Richard Carpenter - ONLY if they do every Mopar in his collection.
NO! The product speaks nicely for itself. I'd rather see the $ spent on new castings...
rlyoung1 10-12-2006, 10:19 AM No. Big names don't make me more apt to buy the product.
midtown 10-12-2006, 10:24 AM here is my vote for spokesman

Lpgeoteacher 10-12-2006, 05:28 PM Buy cars not an avertisings message.
Good cars are a good thing, advertising is just a ploy. I spend my $ where I want to not where some one else tells me to.
edseldave 10-13-2006, 01:27 AM #2 & #5 .... Dont need celebrity spokeman...
moparmarc 10-13-2006, 11:50 AM Its a hit or miss kind of thing, the cost to do it on this scale would cost more then its worth.
So what could some spokes people be? And what cars would be in there set?
how bout Lee Iacocca - K car set (reliant, horizon, etc) and a mustang could be in that release, lol
Some facts I found out about Lee: Iacocca has the world's largest collection of Matchbox cars and recently donated his 1980 K-Car collection to the Stop Syphilis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syphilis) Soon charity auction, fetching a sum of $50,000.
Nissan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan) CEO Carlos Ghosn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Ghosn) is sometimes compared to him, since he returned Nissan to profitability in only a year, in what is considered one of the greatest automotive turnarounds in history, similar to Chrysler's.
In order to remember the correct spelling of his name, Chrysler Corporation employees devised the mnemonic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic); I Am Chairman Of Chrysler Corporation Always.

.
Is this even true? I never heard of his Matchbox collection. Also did he sell 50K of these? What other K car castings are out there? Or was it a collection of 1:1 cars?
