I've been working on this old MTD leafblower, and I cant seem to get good spark out of it no matter what I do. I replaced the points, condenser, and coil. Set the points at.020", still no start.

If you have spark then it could be a fuel problem or compression. snprnut 10-09-2006, 09:56 PM have good compression, no igntion spark. I have the plug grounded to the head and no spark. Have my tester hooked up, and no spark. 30yearTech 10-09-2006, 10:01 PM On some models of Tecumseh engines the ignition cam lobe that opens the points can be removed from the crankshaft. If yours can then it might have been installed upside down, this will throw the points 180 degrees out of time and you won't get any spark. Check that and also pay close attention to where your condenser hooks up to the points, make sure none of the connectors are grounding to the mag housing, also make sure the kill switch lead and kill switch are not grounding. big ed 10-11-2006, 01:00 AM please get this problem solved i would like to know the outcome if original parts are installed how much longer can this unit live before its outlived its purpose in life afterall points are old old old technology so this unit has to be a special case or your board dont keep us hanging after all this one was to receive a new electronic ign syst. the coil may need to be tested on a merc-tronic ign analizer AND MAY SHOW WHERE THE FAULT IS vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
