Hi hope I can get some answers>: I have a 12 hp Kohler engine the engine starts and runs but on high idle while in use it will stall coming to find out gas is dripping out the carb. I got a kit and put the new parts in it, the little piece that the float makes go up and ( if you know the name let me know) anyways put ti back on and it still does that runs fine then after 5 min at high it leaks out. Can you tell ,me what is causing this? and while rebuilding I put a new floaton it, if anyone can tell me how I would know it was a bad float that might help me in the future also.

Thanks!

Inlet needle, float needle. You can usually just shake a float and listen to it, if it sounds like it has fluid in it then it needs to be replaced, otherwise it is usually alright.

The inlet seat in your carburetor might be bad and not sealing good against the float needle, or it could be leaking around the casting. If it is not replaceable and this is where the leak is, then you will have to replace the carburetor.

Also check the carburetor vent, if it is plugged it will allow the carburetor to overflow (flood).

Does it do this only when the engine is running?

Does this engine have a fuel pump?

The float needle is also called the inlet needle, the long needle with holes in it is most likely one of the carburetor jets. Depending on the carburetor it could be internally vented or externally vented, the vent is just an opening from the inside of the carburetor bowl chamber that vents to the outside, the opening for the vent can be in the throat of the carburetor (internal vent) or on the outside usually the top or side of the carburetor and may have a small hose attached to a nipple.
