hydroracer 09-25-2006, 10:09 AM Hey guys, starting a new thread to let people know about our local R/C track. It is located in Plymouth, IN, about 20 minutes south of South Bend. It is a great facility and a family atmosphere to race at. Races are held Saturday nights..doors open at 4:00p.m., racing starts at 7:00 p.m.
Rules for the classes are listed on the website: www.jamsrc.com or you can email them directly at jamsrc@comcast.net . As always, if you bring at least three (3) cars for a division, they will find a place for you in the schedule. Also, for the younger kids (or even the big kids) that are wanting to try it out, they have rental cars that can be rented and raced for the evening. You just drive the car, return it to the track officials and they will get it ready for the next heat. A simple way to get hooked...errr, try out....the sport/hobby of R/C racing.
They have an on-site hobby shop that carries parts and if you don't see what you need, let them know, they can probably order it for you. They also have food, candy and pop on-site. If you are craving something from a drive-thru, there numerous places to drive within 5 minutes of the track.
There will be an open house on October 7, 2006, from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Come out, check out the facilities, hot lap and just visit with each other.
Also, keep an eye on this thread for more information regarding a Trophy Race in December.
Any questions, feel free to email or post here!
Krisfo 09-26-2006, 01:23 AM Hey Hydro.....
Good deal man.......will have to keep that date in mind......
Hey Guys.....If you ever want a good "TRACK" burger instead of that Buger King Stuff.....this is the place for you!!!!
ETOWNE 09-26-2006, 06:46 AM Anybody planning on running brushless this year?I know about the kids around the track.I think the some kind of portable fencing would keep the little guys safe.
hydroracer 09-26-2006, 08:12 AM Yeah, there are a few of us that are planning on making the switch to brushless. We are looking for a common ground on this and is seems that most agree to an open speedo with the 4300 motor. Anybody out there wanting to run brushless, please post your opinion here to let us know what you think.
As far as the kids around the track, I'm sure that if we get too fast for the walls to contain us, that we can talk to Mike and John to see about getting a catch fence or something along those lines installed.
ToddFalkowski 09-26-2006, 09:41 AM I'll probably be getting a 4300 brushless, as I'm thinking about a few of the BRL's this year. I think Rich Sanderson was talking brushless as well. Kinda kills off the six-cell stock class there at JAM's. IMO, the 4300 is plenty for that track. 5800's will work, but will probably overpower the track- probably run faster with the 4300.
A catchfence of some sort would be good, even if it was an orange snowfencing that was portable for when something fast runs. You hate to put something permanent up, especially with that nice comfy chair there! But, for safety, probably needs to be done.
Lastly, Kris is right about the food, it's awesome!
hydroracer 09-26-2006, 11:11 AM With Pete's track being so close to ours, are there any racers out there that want to race the 5800 motor/rules from Pete's instead? I know that I would prefer to race against more people, so let me know what you think.
My thought process on this is that there are already some racers out there that have this system already from running it at Pete's. Trying to see if there are enough people that want to come here and run it also.
tbmrc53 09-26-2006, 07:06 PM We are thinking of our trophy night being December 16. Anybody have anything that conflicts with that?
Z-Main Loser 09-26-2006, 07:06 PM I'm already setup for 4300. A few people are starting to try it at Pete's. It might caught on there later in the season. I'd say 4300 open speedo but I still have a 5800 motor but no SS+. The unofficial record at Jams with the 4300 open speedo is 76. At least thats what I've heard.
Krisfo 09-26-2006, 08:17 PM tbmrc53 ...since you have no PM box....would it be cool if I participate in the running of the 4300 or 5800 brushless classes when the rules are set.....
I am in the works in getting my brushless speedo....I have been borrowing a system from somone to test and tune with and I have to give it back tommorrow.....but I think 4300 would as fast as 6 cell stock there on your ozite...... 5800 would work out okay....but who wants to gear down to make that much power work at a short track???? 4300 powerband is a little more forgiving.......
a catch fence is a little troublesome to have but a good idea.....
The times I raced there I have always been concerned about either my car or somone elses hitting a spectator over in that area.......I would probably quit racing if my car hit a kid, or anyone in that instance.....
Z-Main Loser 09-26-2006, 10:00 PM I would probably quit racing if my car hit a kid, or anyone in that instance.....
If thats what it takes then I'll let you hit me anytime. LOL!!!!!!!!!
December 16th works for me.
ToddFalkowski 09-26-2006, 10:35 PM I see no problem with the 16th myself, at the same time, is it too close to Christmas? Just thinking the possible lack of turnout because of being so close. I could be wrong, too.... May be great- maybe promote it as a Christmas race?
As for the brushless, being there's probably 3:1 (or more) of 5800 owners to 4300 owners at this moment, it may help to offer it. 4300 is probably the "way to go", but you still have to justify running it. If there's only two to three, it's just an extra four-minute delay to your race night....

4300 for me.
Krisfo 09-26-2006, 11:20 PM Well since I have signed up for 4300 in the BRL......4300 is what I will run......Count me in!!!!!!!!!

ETOWNE 09-27-2006, 06:22 AM We are thinking of our trophy night being December 16. Anybody have anything that conflicts with that?
sounds good
ToddFalkowski 10-01-2006, 09:44 AM Let's keep this thread going... There's an open house this coming weekend, is that correct? That'd be Saturday the 7th? When will the doors open?
Krisfo 10-01-2006, 10:56 AM Yep....open house is Sat. Night October 7th......I do belive it is ends at 9pm. Come and check out the track, hot lap, mingle, and have fun!!! Maybe even have a track burger......Licking my lips.......
Okay....Roll Call who's coming.....
Count ME in.....

Nope not a problem here!!!!!
hydroracer 10-01-2006, 11:47 AM Correct guys, this coming Saturday is the open house. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. close at 9:00 p.m.
check out the new building renovations, do some hot lapping, talk about classes/rules, do some "bench racing".
ToddFalkowski 10-01-2006, 06:55 PM You're becoming quite the track promoter, Kris....
Krisfo 10-01-2006, 08:10 PM Hey I want this season to rock at these tracks up here. If it takes me to plug the $%@t out of them on here, Darn it I am gonna do it!!!!!!!!!1
Kris
hydroracer 10-02-2006, 08:21 AM Remember guys, this Saturday (October 7th) is the open house at the track. Come on out, discuss the rules/classes, bring the car and do some testing/tuning. I've heard through the grapevine that there will be some drawings on Saturday and a FREE hotdog and coke for each person.
Also, JAMS has purchased a new scoring system that allows the use of personal transponders. They will still have house transponders to use for those that do not have a personal transponder.
Points Series this winter: Sportsman, Busch, Late Model and Legends will receive points every week. Your 5 best weeks will be added up for the Winter Season Points Championship.
A series for NASCAR division has yet to be decided. Come out Saturday and discuss rules for this class. There is talk of changing this class to a Brushless motor set-up. Be sure to stop in and let us know what you think.
Other updates at the track. Construction is to begin shortly at the track. They are adding on to the back of the building and plan on moving the parts, kitchen, etc. into the new area. This will allow more room for the racers in the front portion of the building. Also, some of the pit tables have been reconstructed to add more space. Also, NEW CARPET HAS BEEN ORDERED, but they are still waiting on delivery and installation of the carpet.
So come out Saturday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., see the track, get some food, discuss some rules and catch up with your racing buddies!
radioflyer 10-02-2006, 07:07 PM 4300 with open speedo is the only way to go!! And will be plenty fast enough, the 5800 is overkill and will be a hard setup for the beginner with brushless. The guys from Pete's will just have to get a 4300, instead of everyone else changing!!
ToddFalkowski 10-02-2006, 07:22 PM Guuuuuhh..... Excuse me while I beat my head against the wall............
Z-Main Loser 10-02-2006, 08:00 PM I can't make it to the open house because I will be in Columbus but I also agree with the 4300 open speedo. Me, Ken, and Eric ran open 4300 friday at Pete's with 5 of the Michigan guys. Ken was 1 lap slower with his 4300 car verses the 5800. TQ in the 4300 class was only 3 seconds off TQ in 5800.
ToddFalkowski 10-02-2006, 08:12 PM I agree with it, too, that the 4300 brushless class can be a good class... Just beating my head over referencing 4300 and beginner, and that everyone from Pete's will just have to change... The 4300 isn't a beginner's motor...
Krisfo 10-02-2006, 08:29 PM I am just beating my head up against the wall....
*BANG*
*BANG*
ARGHHHHHH
toddallen25 10-02-2006, 09:55 PM I will do the 4300 also.
hydroracer 10-03-2006, 12:58 PM ok, so it sounds like the majority of the guys are wanting to run the 4300/open speedo option. When I talk to the owners on Saturday, I'll let them know what the majority is saying. Once a decision is made on the brushless class/rules, I'll be sure to let everyone know.
radioflyer 10-03-2006, 02:48 PM I hope you guys didn't hurt yourself beating your heads against the wall, but what I was refering to was new guys coming from other forms of racing, like oval trans. classes and offroad, because we are always trying to increase the number of oval racers! I don't believe I said that the 4300 was a beginners class, I believe that my exact words were that it would be plenty fast!!!
ToddFalkowski 10-03-2006, 04:16 PM Naaahhh... head's fine, always been ugly... The 4300, though, isn't much at all slower than the 5800. Little more pop out of the 5800's. Kinda like cup versus busch. Fast, though, either way. I don't disagree with the 4300 thought, it's not a bad idea at all. As far as Pete's guy's just having to change, probably a little unfair comment. 4300 is the more popular class throughout the US, but the tracks also have to cater to what shows up, too. If 15 guys show up with 5800's, and 3 show up with 4300's, well, then you gotta lean towards the 5800. I still wonder who everyone else is... 4300's are just starting to gain popularity around here. If it wasn't for the BRL, and Summit, we may not even be talking 4300's.....
Z-Main Loser 10-03-2006, 04:38 PM Thats the biggest problem we have with brushless in this area. Pete's track was the first to have a brushless class in this area. But in just the past year, brushless has spread quick throughout the midwest. Why everyone jumped on the 4300 bandwagon I don't know but the fact is that 4300 open speedo is the class being ran in the midwest. So you have a track that started it all in this area with the 5800 SS+ speedo being surrounded by tracks in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and at Summit and New Castle all going with 4300 open speedo. Its hard to turn your back on the guys with the 5800 ss+ system but at the same time its hard to turn down someone or a group of guys coming from these other areas that are running open 4300. Just my opinion but open 4300 should be the main brushless class but if the group from Pete's comes down let them run their own brushless class. That is what Pete is doing with the 4300 class. 3 or makes the class.
hydroracer 10-03-2006, 04:49 PM JAMS always has the policy that if 3 or more show up, they will let them run. I'm just trying to help decide which class should be written into the rules for the "weekly" classes. I know that I'm not the only one that didn't like racing the same 2-4 guys on a weekly basis. That's why I'm trying to get an idea of the who will show and what they will run. I'm glad to hear that there are guys at Pete's running the 4300 too. I'm trying to finally get a class that I can run at more than 1-2 tracks (and for me, that starts at the home track). anyways, like i said at the beginning, JAMS will always allow 3 or more cars in the same class to race each other.
ToddFalkowski 10-03-2006, 05:11 PM That, I agree with...
ETOWNE 10-03-2006, 06:05 PM Todd,I feel your pain,it just cost me 4-5 hundo to have a gtb ss4300 car.Do I like this ,no.I look at it this way,I have a Pete car and the 4300.This gives me good option to run anywhere. But,I could still show up at a track and not have the right equipment, maybe that track doesn't have a brushless class.Thats one of the reasons we need to make this series work.
ToddFalkowski 10-03-2006, 07:42 PM No, it's not my pain at all. I don't mind having different stuff, and don't totally mind spending the money if I can justify it. I'm still not sold on brushless, but will run it to be able to race different guys in different areas. I was just a bit torqued by the statement of "Pete's guys will just have to switch" more than anything. Those are the things that keep a series from working. (Mind you, I raced Pete's twice, bought a brushless just so I could race there- so I can't call myself a "Pete's guy")
Sorry, I probably started something on this forum that doesn't belong on it. This one is to promote JAM's, not have the 54th forum about a series or getting everyone to run one class. At least the JAM's forum is at the top, just with the wrong content. But, it's kinda getting to the point where we keep telling these track owners, "they run ____ at their track". One of these days, one of these track owners is gonna tell us to just go there and leave their track alone. Unfortunately, it's the same dozen (if that many people) that are trying to change the racing front. For me, the oval racing season hasn't even "started" here yet, and I'm about burned out with it already. (my 12th scale car is sitting on the shelf smiling at me as I type... Devilish grin... )
ETOWNE 10-03-2006, 08:07 PM Sorry Todd,I continue on Pete's page
ToddFalkowski 10-03-2006, 08:14 PM Naaah... My bad... Just in a ranting mood this week. Week started off wrong....
ETOWNE 10-03-2006, 08:15 PM I see!
ToddFalkowski 10-03-2006, 08:32 PM Just sick of damn Iraq this week...
Krisfo 10-03-2006, 11:48 PM All this 4300 racing action and I can't come and play.......Nobody wants me to play.....Oh Well guess I just go pump some iron 3-4 days a week....
ETOWNE 10-04-2006, 06:39 AM I'm down w/ a ss4300 class.Not going to make it this saturday,we're going to Columbus
ETOWNE 10-06-2006, 06:31 AM Count 1 ss4300 car saturday.
hydroracer 10-06-2006, 11:27 AM Well good luck to the guys running in Columbus this weekend!
Reminder for those sticking around this weekend.....open practice tomorrow at the track from 5-9 pm. Free hotdog and drink for each person. Come out, bench race, discuss rules or just catch up with fellow racers.
Hope to see you there!
hydroracer 10-08-2006, 11:30 AM Saturday night was a great time guys, thanks for coming out. Some folks practiced, others just caught up with fellow racers and discussed rules, etc.
A brushless class has been decided upon. We are going to run 4300 motor, open ESC, 4200 mah battery limit, Nascar body, wings allowed, 41 oz. minimum weight.
Check out the website in the near future for the updated rules and racing information (www.jamsrc.com).
Classes eligible for the winter points series are the new Nascar (brushless), sportsman, late model, busch and legends.
Other classes that have rules set-up and are going to be run include gearbox, 1/12 scale oval (rules still being decided upon), and sprint cars (transmission and direct drive cars will be run separate when enough show up). As always, if 3 or more cars in a particular class show up, they will run them also.
Thanks again for coming out on Saturday and remember that racing starts next Saturday.
ToddFalkowski 10-08-2006, 12:21 PM Last night I practiced with both the 4300 and the 5800 Brushless, and didn't see a huge difference in motor. The 5800 did come out of the corner harder, but in most cases, there probably won't be an appreciable advantage. Work on the chassis, and you'll be rewarded with a lap or two with the 5800 on a CLEAN run. With five or six cars out there (no whining here- we're supposed to be the fast guys, the "good" drivers!) I don't feel as it'll make enough difference.... I was happy to say that the 4300 didn't seem "too much" for the track. I let my son run it a few laps, and he did fine with it...
A clean run in the 4300 brushless should net a high 70's, closer to 80. Car was probably about two tenths faster than a six-cell stock, which I ran 75 with last year, running laps in the 3.1-3.2 range. 3.0 laps x 240 seconds = 80 laps.... Mathematically possible!!!
What I did enjoy last night was to come in and see the freshly-painted tables, etc. Good to see tracks taking care of their place!
hydroracer 10-10-2006, 10:40 AM Racing is scheduled to begin this weekend. See the website for more details.
www.jamsrc.com
ETOWNE 10-10-2006, 07:07 PM I will be down saturday.I think Derrick is comming too.Pry both ss4300.Anyone running 18th?
Z-Main Loser 10-10-2006, 07:39 PM 4300??? Thats too fast for me.
ETOWNE 10-10-2006, 07:41 PM Good I'll have some one to race 18th with.
