Starting a new thread for this season.

The New carpet is all installled. Reassembly of the walls and cleanup will be done this evening, so we'll be ready to run on Saturday 9/16.

I have just spoken with a representative from CRC(the supplier of the carpet) and was told that Paragon Ground Effects is fine to use on the new carpet as is Traction Action, and Corally's Jack the Gripper.
They also informed us that the orange scented compounds from Racers Choice are VERY BAD for the carpet so they will not be used here. Fortunately it looks like the Racer's Choice compounds are no longer available.

The final decision on the 19T motor rule is to run the Komodo Dragon motors only.

Lots of guys were at the dirt race at Mike's so we just had a few trucks and a few spec stock. Sounds like most of the regulars will start showing up next week.
Track seems smooth with good bite. A couple of 19T guys that practiced Sat. afternoon were getting lots of rear bite with their old setups so were looking for a little more front bite to get them to turn.

I was just wondering what the rules and regulations were for spec?...What makes it a spec class? What battery/motor combination do we have to run? From what i have heard its just going to be 4 cell stock. I am real interested in getting back into pan but dont have the funds due to my 1:1 car. So this may be the best route. If not i will run trucks.

justin, this is what were running

spec paks (unmatched 3800's ) $19.50
BSR spec tires $14-$15 a pair
chrome handout motors...$25
F brush , no slot , no holes $3 a pair
Yeah pretty much like stock but now were all running the same motor, battery , tire and brush combo

Jason, I'm getting into the sign making business, grafix for cars, store front signs, magnetic signs, garage sale, letter race cars...All that stuff. Hopefully it'll take off well enough that in a couple of years I can stop working construction, so my body wont hurt as bad.

See you at Marshalls.

That's cool, Bret. We missed ya tonight! Just little T and me in 19T. Anyone that doubts the capability of the Komodo needs to witness it at RCH. Track needs some more time but...I did 74 4:03 - started with low 3.1's and finished with mid 3.3's. This little dragon rips! I think with a little more groove in the track and some more motor tuning 19T will be seeing 3.0's. I am really starting to like this class and this motor rule should help it.

See ya at Marshall's....Jason

I thought the rule was ULTRABIRD, then I re-read some posts.
I know "you can't please all the people all the time" But fixed timing, laydown brushes...It's a glorified stocker.
Now there's no fun playing with timing and gearing, it's just like stock  .

I'm not even sure it's ROAR legal for oval, and you tend to lean towards ROAR rules...You'll be the only track that I know of using this motor as the only motor allowed, so, if your trying to help the "out of town guy's" by letting them know they can only use a motor they don't currently own, well...

I have most 19 turns available, and I'll run whatever you deem legal, but personally, if theres a rule, it should be ULTRABIRD.

After hearing how poorly ultrabird's have been received on some of the touring series and taking into account the fact that there needs to a techable 19T motor and consulting with some people and I'm not divulging my sources. I helped steer us in this direction. Glorified stock motors? Maybe maybe not. Why not give them a chance. I keep hearing grumblings about how there are never enough guys to run 19T and that maybe if we had more "control" over the class some other drivers who usually only run stock would consider running 19T. Can't please them all I guess. Every race track or sanctioning body on the planet has new rules each and every year that they run, hell some even like to change things right in the middle of a race weekend but we didn't want to have that situation occur so we implemented them now before the season gets going. It's a new year and this is the new rule. If it's good enough for tracks like St. Roch then it's good enough for us. They've had great success doing it this way. From what I've seen and heard these things run really strong. At the end of the day we're trying to get more people racing again and not trying to alienate anybody so I'm sorry if some of you aren't ecstatic about this but it needed to be done and it will be better for all involved.

From what I understand they've always used chamelons up there for the most part and that's what I was talking about. I don't understand the problem everyone is having with this. Does it really make that much of a difference? For too long this class has gone without any kind of real rules package and now that we want to grow the class by implementing some basic rules nobody is happy. What do we have to do to make you guys happy? From my point of view it seems almost impossible. Nomatter what we do.

John,
Stick with what you have started...there is goin' to be growing pains. If you cave to the vet's, you may (will) lose out on new guys coming up through 19T. No matter what, people are going to be upset. And, I wouldn't worry too much about out o' towners because open rules haven't gotten you anywhwere so far. Let us new guys (19T) get our feet wet and then have this discussion again in a few months. There are more pro's than con's with this motor and I think it has more to do with promoting this class locally than anything else. How long has Bret been trying to singlehandedly promote this class in the Capital District? If it takes one step back to move 5 forward, then it is worth it. Two guys have already bought this motor and raced it. That's two more than last year and the season has hardly begun. I don't mind being a glorified stocker - at least until I'm ready for the next step. Also, has anyone contacted Kirt to sync. rules? Would probably be a healthy idea. Just my $.02

just found this link and it looks like the ultrabird 19t is the most popular choice for oval racing, not sturing up anything just found a pole that was already going from your racing peers..

Jay. Yes I have talked with Kirt and gave him a copy of our 2006-2007 rules. From what I understand the club has every intention to get on the same page as us in terms of classes and weight. That way maybe we can have racers run at both places and not just at one or the other. Ken told me that George from S&H has called him to see what we're doing up here so he can be on the same page as well, in case he runs his own local deal, apart from the club. So here's hoping we can all get along and have a great race season together.

TRACK NEWS!
Tonight we laid down new corner panels(ice), with some changes to the shape of the curve and the position of the panel. The new configuration, while not radically different, lengthens the straightaways a little, and should make the racing line more like an oval and less like a circle. Some racers have been asking for changes that would create more passing opportunities at the entrance and exit of the corners. We hope this will help in that respect without a drastic change in the layout that many of you seem to like already. If everyone hates it, it a quick and easy change to switch it back.

Now, bring on Pro-Stock and 19-Turn!

My intent is to have this thread to be the main thread for the track.
I started the Spec thread to pass along pre season developments and info about the Spec class, and figured I'd just keep it going dedicated to the Spec class. Any improtant news about the track, events, schedule, etc. I will put on both. So if you're not involved or interested in Spec racing, this thread would be the one to follow

I just got back from a trip to kens to buy some parts and took a look at the track. It is definately more of a oval now with a little bit longer straight. It went from a ( ) run line to a (===) run line. If that made sense. The good news is there is 8ft from the apex of the corner tile to the outside wall. So there is a bit of room to work with. For thoose that havent made the trip up in a while there is also a good groove on the track as well. Tire wear has come down quite a bit and not to mention the track being smooth as silk!
