View Full Version : CD R/C Racers Carpet Season KirtC 09-13-2006, 09:12 PM We need to get this topic its own space and move it off of the Dirt Page. I'll copy a few of the pertinent posts below. Tommygun43 09-13-2006, 10:22 PM Kirt, When does carpet season start? Whats the plan for this year. Has the club had there meeting yet? KirtC 09-16-2006, 07:40 AM Hey Tom All good questions. No meeting has been held yet, that announcement should come this week. This year there is a three member team that will be running things, Keith H, Bob G., and John O. I'm still the secreatarty but have my hands full with the DIRT program and don't plan on running carpet so I don't want to make any announcements prematurely. There is an invitation from Science and Hobby and an interest to have us race at his new track, and that is what we ahve to decide soon. I will be stopping by Science and Hobby in Watervliet later today, around 12PM, on my way to the race at Big Mikes. I know its short notice, but if anyone else is available I'll see you there. We want the members of the Club to look at the facility and then have a meeting to decide where to race. One big thing to thing through, is where does all the stuff that is currently stored at he Boy's & Girls Club go if we change venues? Historically the Club has stated on the weekend after Columbus Day (aka Syracuse DIRT weekend) with a week or two of test and tune, and with points starting near the first week in Nov. But again, the guys runnubg the show need to make those decisions. See Ya.....................Later Today................At The Track Kirt disruptor10 09-18-2006, 02:09 PM Should'nt the 3 people in charge be planning a club meeting at the science and hobby location so the ball can get rolling ? George at S& H is waiting for a meeting date and to know what else he needs to do , just so you all know .......................................BIG D RCPAINT 09-18-2006, 06:27 PM I suggest we schedule the General Meeting next Monday, September 23 at Science and Hobby. If this time is inconvenient this is the time to sound off and look at alternate dates, but for now I say next Monday. I am looking forward to everybodies input, after all I am a relative newbie at this. Some things to think about between now and next week are what classes are going to be run, like Kirt said if we decide to use Science and Hobby what do we do with all the stuff at the Boys Club. I will contact George and make sure next Monday is OK. As far as a start time, is 7 okay? Later Keith H Ed Litt 09-18-2006, 07:19 PM Hey Keith, The 23rd is this Saturday. Did you mean the Monday the 25th? Eitherway, I be there to take a look and give my 2 cents. :) disruptor10 09-18-2006, 07:28 PM Cant u put the stuff u have at the boys club in storage temporarily ? Wont u need the tables at science and hobby ? And if your gonna use the clubs computer maybe george will give a spot to leave that storage cabinet ? Just some thoughts ......................BIG D Grmann 09-18-2006, 07:47 PM Hey everybody. This is Dee from Science and Hobby. If you need to contact me, you can email me at mannhome1@aol.com. The same goes for George. As far as the dates go. It is easier to reach George anytime except for Monday's after 7PM (he goes out with his family). As far as storage goes, we have enough space to hold anything you need us to. George and I make the decisions here together, so if you have a question, feel free to ask either one of us. We don't know times, dates, track layouts, or any of that because we are waiting feedback on the club members. We would like to get everyone together so that the track is adequate for everyone (not just Science and Hobby). I have four rooms that are decent size for pit space, and George and I have been juggling the idea of lockers. George and I also have also discussed building a drivers stand, and we have a PA system already. You can reach us at 518-272-9040 as well. Just thought you should know where we stand on the track. Thanks! Dee Ed Litt 09-18-2006, 08:31 PM Hey everybody. This is Dee from Science and Hobby. If you need to contact me, you can email me at mannhome1@aol.com. The same goes for George. Ed RCPAINT 09-18-2006, 10:05 PM Ed, thanks for correcting me, I mean the 25th Monday. Also give me a holler before you go Saturday and I'll join ya. Later Keith H dalejr828 09-18-2006, 10:14 PM i know that if the club goes to science and hobby or not i plan on running my fleet of minis there. from what i have seen and talked to georoge about i think that it would be a good thing for the club. one of the top things that people have asked for from our club seems to have been shorter days and a tarck that we could practice at during the week. i think this is a answer to both problems, we get practice and we save time with no track set up and pick up -Kyle RustyDog 09-18-2006, 10:18 PM Hey everybody. Thanks! Dee The track and store are looking good, you guys did a great job so far with what I had seen the last time I stopped in. Since your looking at times and days for racing this might be a good time the Club looks into 2 days of racing. One day of oval and one day of touring. Or even seperating the same day into 2 parts like what was tried at the Boys Club early last season. Would be a nice change from the Boy's Club set up and tear down every week. Plus practice time during the week. I wouldn't think lockers would be worth the money you'd be spending on them. You'll probably find that most everyone will want to take their stuff home each week to work on. An hour or so of racing each week is most likely followed by five or even more hours of tweaking during the week. Especially for us that are still just trying to stay on the lead lap most of the time. Fred RCPAINT 09-19-2006, 06:33 AM I just realized Monday the 25th is the Pine Bowl race, would it be beneficial to move the meeting to Wednesday the 27th? KirtC 09-19-2006, 07:31 AM Good Idea Annual Club Carpet Organizational meeting Wed 27 Sept 7 PM Science & Hobby (2nd Ave Watervliet [2 blocks south of Rt 2 and the Congress St Bridge]) Things to think thru and discuss Location Schedule Classes (get co-ordinated with Glans Falls) Rules Changes (if any) See Ya................At The Meeting John, Keith, & Bob Grmann 09-19-2006, 10:01 AM Good Morning Everyone! It was nice to hear some feedback from my post. I just want to make the directions clear on how to get here because we are not on Broadway. Take 787N to Exit 8. Take a Left at the light. Go down to 2nd Ave (about 2.5 lights) and take a left. We are one block down after the first light, on the right hand side. You can park on 18th street, or go down 18th to the end of our building. There is an ally there. Take a left, and park in our parking lot. Like I said before, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Thanks again and have a great day! Dee Kahler tripleh3 09-19-2006, 06:09 PM Can you have the meeting on a monday or tuesday.Cant make it wed or thurs.I would like to be there for this. RCPAINT 09-19-2006, 09:07 PM The meeting has been moved to Wednesday night due to Monday being the night for the race at the Pine Bowl, I can't make Tuesday. if Wed doesn't work for the majority then I guess we come up with an alternate KirtC 09-20-2006, 07:11 AM Sorry but the meeting is Wed the 27th We'll just never get a date and a time that works for everyone; what do you think this is the State Budget Committee? LOL If you can't make it please make you own trip there and post or call one of us with your input (as many of you already have) Thanks "The Club" Grmann 09-20-2006, 10:48 AM I will make sure George and I are here next Wednesday. If that date changes, please advise. Thanks! Dee disruptor10 09-20-2006, 01:35 PM RCpaint u have mail !!!! rwkracing 09-20-2006, 06:20 PM Are we looking at week end race format? what time frame? Ed Litt 09-20-2006, 07:34 PM Hey Everyone, I went down to Science & Hobby after work today and took a few photos of the track for those members who won't be able to make it there on the 27th. I must say, Dee & George are making an amazing effort to make this a first class RC racing facility. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to showing me around the place and sharing your future plans with me. BTW, the brand new carpet track measures 36' x 65'. Follow the link to a quick website I put together to post the photos: http://www.bulletrcbodies.com/shtrack.htm RCRacer45s 09-20-2006, 10:14 PM road rails make me cry..but everything looks good. a very nice looking facility. KirtC 09-21-2006, 08:15 AM Too bad you can't import a table into this thread............anyway, see the file attached Review and provide feedback either here or at the meeting No reason to start until after the Syracuse Weekend as most are out there. No Points on Dec 31st as there are historically many trophy races (Caladras and others). Consistent with the last 5 -10 years schedule. Kirt fearme 09-22-2006, 06:06 PM everything looks good. Just one question--- if they build a drivers stand, how high would it be and are the ceilings high enough??? just my questions.... jody t KirtC 09-24-2006, 10:42 AM Although a drivers stand has been talked about, I don't know how it would be possible without blocking a significant portion of the stores inventory (in other words you couldn't get to the model section on a race day), and its location would block the entrance to the room that would be the preferred pit area. Think Gary Hollinger and bring your own 2-step step ladder for now. See Ya ..Wednesday Meeting .At The Track Big_Mike 09-24-2006, 11:48 AM Just My 2 Cents......looks Like You Will Have To Build Platforms About One Foot Or More Up On The Walls For Corner Workers And They Will Have To Be Big Enough And Strong Enough For Big Guys Like Myself. It Also Looks Like You Might Have To Put Up A 6" Or More Wall. Open Studs On The Track Side Of The Wall Looks Alittle Dangerous And Costly (lots Of Broking Parts). How High Is That Wall??are Kids And Short People Going To Be Able To See The Whole Track?? Or Do They Always Have To Packup And Bring Something To Stand On Just So They Can See The Whole Track (just Another Thing To Think About).. Again This Is Just My 2 Cent Big Mike tripleh3 09-24-2006, 12:40 PM From what i understand you will need to stand inside the wall or else how will you be able to adjust on your car.thus this will tack away track space making it smaller.only way to fix that is to take the one wall down and put up a small drivers stand. Also inside the walls there needs to besome sort of cushion from the open 2 by 4 use some plexyglass to line the inside of the track.Just my opinion.Need to make the track more racer friendly if you want to bring in more racers. Thanks John H Grmann 09-25-2006, 01:41 PM Hello everyone. I see that there are some questions about the wall, drivers stand, etc. Just so everyone knows, what you see in the pictures is not finished yet, and we will be listening to everyone's input, and then completing the wall along with anything else that is needed for the club. We intentionally did not finish all of the work yet, so that everyone's input could be considered and the end result would be a great setup for the club. There will be a drivers stand if we need it. There is enough room for a drivers stand, and we are not concerned about blocking products on that wall. If the wall needs to be shortened, we can also do that easily. It is currently about 3' tall. We will be adding some cushioning on the inside of the wall and finishing the wall, so that cars are not damaged by hitting the wall. We are looking forward to having as many visitors this Wednesday as possible and will listen to everyone's suggestions, and then decide what changes are needed and get those done well before the indoor racing season starts. Please feel free to continue posting your questions and suggestions. We will take everyone's suggestions into account and make the setup as nice as possible. Thanks George & Dee - Science and Hobby Razoo 09-25-2006, 02:41 PM Seems to me, that no one ever complained about a lack of drivers stand at the boys club. Why not give George and Dee a chance to make whatever changes that are deemed necessary first? I like the idea of a permanant track but then again most of the guys with an opinion on this thread didn't bother to help set-up and take down the track every week in Renesselear anyways! The Jet 09-25-2006, 06:00 PM The "open studs" problem can be solved the same way Maximus did, 4x4 PVC at track level between the studs, then a 4" tall, full length piece to blend it  . Without the "set up and clean up" I'll be making Sunday races too  . I just need some information to get started on parts and product distributers (seeing as how we don't carry them all). I will need a list of cars that people are running so I can stock parts for them (I have parts for the T4,B4,Evader, TC3, RC18, and the Mini T). I would also like to know which manufacturers people prefer (i.e. RPM Racing, HPI Racing, New Era, and so on). I will be getting ahold of Ken from Racing City Hobbies to discuss what he carries so that we can stock up on those items as well. The track wall will be worked on next Thursday, and we are cleaning out the rooms for the pit area this week and next. That's the update. Thanks guys. It makes it easier to order all the parts knowing the part numbers, and I would like to make a copy of the manual for the store.
