I have a 6.5HP Techumseh model 143.016736. It is on a Craftsman weed whacker. The engine is wore out. I would like to replace it with a Briggs engine. Does anyone know if any 6.5HP briggs will fit? Do i have to go back with a tecumseh engine? Does anyone make a list that shows what engines will change over to what engine of another make?
Thanks for all your help.

This is one of those with wheels on the back, and the string cutter on the front that you push.
Maybe weed whacker is not the right name?
Sorry.

in most cases the foot print or mounting holes can be used by more than one type of engine if you look at most mower decks there are more than one set of mounting holes to acomadate what ever was cheaper to buy a ten thousand at a time to make it as economical as possible and still make a profit but if the engine will fit into the machine holes can be drilled easily to make it happen no big deal good luck

Thanks Big Ed I appreciate the reply. I am now finding it is as cheap to buy a new cutter as a new engine.
Thanks again

Actually, I think they are called wheeled weed-whackers.
