Just trying to get a feel for anyone interested in some Carpet Oval/On-road here in the Charlotte, NC area. There is some talk of a track in the works near Salisbury (just north of Charlotte). The Oval would be a close replica of the Snowbirds with the same carpet and an interchanging on-road as well. The track would be indoors with lighting, AC, Personal Transponder supported lap counting, food and drinks, ample pit areas, etc. If you can put foams on it and it's electric you can race.

Let me know what you guys think.

That would be great, the Carolinas need a carpet track we can race at.

Tony, been all over the NC and SC this summer running nitro. Guess Some indoor electric racing might be good. Hope there is some 1/12th for me and spec truck for Steve (Kriter). We could make a trip or two. I know that Gary Warren will be doing electric this winter, but not sure how much and where, Mclin says no electric in the future for him. We will just have to see how long he can go with out a fix. LOL

We went and looked a building yesterday. 5000+ square feet should be just fine.

When do you guys want to race?

Oval on Saturdays and On-road on Sundays?

5000 sq. ft. might sound adequate but with the track, pit area, concession area, hobby parts area, it will get full fast. Suggestion, get some graph paper and do some paper cutouts and see what kind of space will work before signing on the dotted line. It will save a lot of aggravation later on.

If you're looking for a lap counter might try calling Electric City Raceway in Anderson, SC 309 McGee Rd Anderson, SC (864) 261-7223. They bought a brand new system a couple of years ago and really never used it. I don't know if they had sold it yet or not but it doesn't hurt to check it out. It was an AMBrc system btw.

Good luck with the venue, sounds like it will be the place to be this winter!

Thanks for the thoughts. The indoor track in Mooresville, NC had 70-90 racers every Saturday and that track was in a kitchen compaired to the building we are looking at. We may have to go a bit smaller on the track to house more pit areas but yes we are looking at all options. We already have the lap counting and PA systems but thanks for the tip!

Hey no problem. Always glad to help out when I can. Just sharing some things from the old "been there-done that" files. ;)

We had an indoor track in Greenville, SC about 9 years ago and it was in an old grocery store of about 12,000 sq. ft and I know how easy it is to use up space, you always can use more.

Okay guys here is the Big News:

The building we are looking at has 2 occupants currently in the process of removing their equipment. Party #1 had their stuff moved out last week. The second party will have their stuff removed next week and be cleared out by the 29th. The building "should" be available for us on October 1st. :)

We are having one hick and I'm hoping you guys offering help can hook us up! We have called CRC (Calandra Racing Concepts) for carpet ordering many times without a return call. With IIC around the corner we are thinking CRC is prepping for this race. Any of you on-road junkies (John and Brandon lol) attending the IIC, please have Frank Calandra or a CRC rep. contact us so we can get the ball rolling on getting carpet here ASAP!

Not sure as to when we will have the doors open for business, but I can tell you guys "WE WILL BE RACING CARPET" in Salisbury this winter!

Also................good luck to you guys attending the IIC.

Please don't think you have to get the carpet from CRC. Anyone who has ever dealt with them knows its like pulling teeth. Just google "ozite carpet" and you'll find there are numerous places that carry this product. Just a hint of advice, don't get the stuff that Home Depot sells as ozite or everyone that races at your location will have to invest in a small shop vac to use after every run. Keep up the hard work and good luck.
