I got the Yogi Bear Complete Series DVD and it's great.

And a bonus. One of the other segments is something I forgot all about. Haven't seen them in years and it's a treasure.

Yakky Doodle!

This cracks me up. Anyone else remember this little guy?

James :)

Can't say I've ever heard of Yakky Doodle, though I remember most of the Hanna-Barbera TV cartoons of my youth. Frankly, I was never a big HB fan — I thought their cartoons relied too much on formula recycled sitcom plots and stock characters, with catchphrases instead of real characterizations — although I did enjoy Top Cat (a shameless ripoff of Sergeant Bilko, with the titular cat's voice even sounding like Phil Silvers). Anyone know if that show is available on DVD?

Of course I remember Yogi. With his pal Boo Boo always sayin, "Yogi the ranger isn't going to like this."
I remember Yakky as well and his buddy Chopper. "Close your eyes Yakky, you should't oughta see this." :)

Dishonest John! Nya-ha-Ha!!Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil was VERY funny -- and very hip for a kiddie cartoon show in the early 1960s. Who could forget such memorable characters as The Phantom of the Horse Opera, Jack the Knife (a bopping, jive-talking shark who sang like Bobby Darrin) and my favorite, Slopalong Catskill (a catfish with a cowboy hat and a strong Yiddish accent)?

If I remember correctly, Yogi Bear started out as a 'segment' on the Huckleberry Hound show. He then spun off to host his own series. Then, there's also Quick Draw McGraw and Baba Louie!

Some of the other second stringers I recall ( besides Yakkee Doodle and Chopper ) are: Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, Snagglepuss, Snooper and Blabber, Mr. Jinx and Pixie and Dixie.

Then, there were the other one shot characters like: Peter Potomus, Wally Gator, Touche' Turtle and Dum Dum, Hokey Wolf and Dingaling, Yippee Yappee and Yahooey, Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har...

These cartoons used to run on tv all the time when I was a kid! Now, most of them are virtually forgotten... and that's a cryin' shame!

Here's my OFFICIAL Huck Hound Club membership card!! My dad wrote my full name on this for me (I was 4 years old at the time) and laminated it. I was SOOOOOO mad that he wrote out my middle name, which I hated at the time.

And how cool to see pictures of Space Angel! I think I filled up an entire notebook with drawings of his spaceship when I was in first grade.

"although I did enjoy Top Cat (a shameless ripoff of Sergeant Bilko, with the titular cat's voice even sounding like Phil Silvers)."

Many of the cartoon characters of the day were based on real-life counterparts.

Snagglepuss--Bert Lahr
Doggie Daddy--Jimmy Durante
Peter Potamus--Joe E Brown
Wally Gator--Ed Wynn
Huckleberry Hound--Will Rogers

I'm sure I've missed a few others.

Hanna-Barbera's master voice man Daws Butler seemed to specialize in celebrity impressions, though other voice artists occasionally imitated famous voices. IIRC, Wally Gator was Daws Butler doing Ed Wynn, and Rocky & Bullwinkle's Captain Peachfuzz was Paul Frees doing Ed Wynn! Here's my OFFICIAL Huck Hound Club membership card!! I'll bet the other kids teased you and called you "Christmas" or "Easter" or something. And how cool to see pictures of Space Angel! Still drawings with live, moving human lips superimposed on the faces. I always thought the effect was rather creepy. Those LIPS! AAAGGGHHH! THOSE LIPS!!!

The DVD of "The Incredibles" is worth having for "Mr. Incredible & Pals" alone - a creepily perfect evocation of those old Clutch Cargo/Space Angel cartoons. I mean, they nailed it!

The commentary is freakin' hilarious. "Mr. Incredible and Pals" and "Jack Jack Attack" are two extras that are almost better than the movie itself.

Well, you can't remember everything from when you were ten years old. Anyway, frogs and catfish are both funny.
