Well after another disappointing summer it's about time to kick off the 2006/07 winter carpet season. It's looking right now like we might get to start a month earlier than normal and might even have a Hooter Chassis Tour race at the track (but it's to soon to post for sure on that) this year! I'm looking to hopefully "level" out the bump in the floor a little and of course the carpet is going to be spic and span clean after a thorough steam cleaning. A new class is being added and a rules change is in the works for Pro stock classes. Looking forward to seeing everyone indoors this fall.

Geez in thinking are we gonna have any of the "Hilltop Gang" this winter? Jeffs going to Arizona and I dunno about Amanda, Matt, Katie, Jeff, or Puddin either. What're we gonna do without the "crowd in the corner"?

Jeff......I'll have the full listing posted in a few days but we are planning October 28th as a swap meet/practice day and 29th as opening day. Had plans to open before that but things got bumped back. Hope to see some more pancar guys this year. :)

Geez Slowride.........things slowing down a little so you'll be able to come play with us since you've been on here more lately?

Shaun...........cool. Shoot me all the info by email so I know what we gotta do.

Anybody interested, I think I'm going to try and hit Utica on either the 8th or 15th of next month if anyone is interested in a road trip. It's a fun little bullring a little shorter than even our track is! :freak:

About how far is the track from Baltimore MD ??? Do you guys run 1/10th 4 cell pan car there ??? If you do whats the adress there so directions can be gotten online???

OvalmanPA
09-23-2006, 07:21 PM
TBRC1.........let's just put it this way........a LONNNNGGGGG way from Baltimore. We are hoping to run some 4 cell pancar this year. At least we will be on November 18th when the Hooter Chassis Outlaw Tour visits our track. We haven't had much interest in 4 cell pancar at our track in a good many years but I hope we can get that changed this year. As for directions. You can visit our website (www.racersedgerc.com) and click on the location link. You can punch Smethport into a place such as Mapquest and get you here and then follow the directions for the website. Hope that helps but until we get started I don't know what kind of turnout we'll have for pancars.

I got directions from randmcnally and it's like 5 hrs there. I doubt there will be w trip to your track for us. That in itself is a bit of a bummer since we do like short tracks. Our "home" track is a 70 foot driveline if I remember right.

If you wanted to make the drive north make sure to post here so OvalmanPA knows. I'm sure we could drum up some pan car racrers for that weekend to make it worth the trip. Hope to see you sometime in PA.

Sounds about like the track I posted above that I plan to go to in a few weeks. You're always turning! There are a couple tracks around this area that have a MUCH bigger runline than our little track but I have just always liked the little track better. I guess it's what I learned on so they're my favorite. Thanks for the inquiry and I wish we were a little closer for you to stop by. Like Tom said, if you ever get the hankerin' for a road trip let us know. Always like to see new faces here.

Well if the other members of the team can get time off for the trip MAYBE we could make the trip. But I kinda doubt thay have as understanding employeers as I do. It's kinda cool work in a racing related bussiness :D Make stuff for the BIG cars get that paycheck and spend it on the little cars.

Hello Racers!,

It’s time to put the foam tires back on and get the vehicles lowered down because it’s time to go carpet racing! We’re hoping for another good winter season like the one last year. New will be an earlier start to the season which we haven’t seen in years. A new class has been added for those not quite ready for the full on stock classes. And a change has been made for those that run the pro stock classes.
As was mentioned above, in previous years we have had to wait until toward the end of November before we could get started racing. This year however the last thing going on will be on October 14th so we will be able to start in October, although at the end of it. October 28th will get the season started with our annual season opening swap meet and practice day. This year we are going to move the start up a couple hours to 4:00 and end it when everybody goes home. The following day, October 29th will be the first race of the season. We will begin the points season on November 12th and it will run until March 18th. See the rules (www.racersedgerc.com/rules.html) for the complete details of the new class we will have this year but it will be called Intermediate stock. It’s basically going to be a Production class with 27 turn motors for those of you that felt you weren’t ready for the speeds of the stock classes. At first I wasn’t to keen on urther “diluting” the racing classes but after some thought I decided maybe it’s worth trying. Both Pro stock classes will also now be allowed to run any 19t 24 degree motor instead of just having to choose between two motors as before. We will also be hosting a leg of the Hooter Chassis 4 cell pancar racing tour this season on November 18th. This will be a Saturday race. We will still offer all the weekly classes but this will be a non-points race.
As always we will have food available every week to keep your own tank full and you know it always tastes better at the track. 50-50s and extra giveaways will also be in the weekly schedule of things going on.

Swap meet - October 28th - 4:00PM - ?
First race - October 29th - signups close at 12:15 - racing starts at 12:30
Points begin - November 12th
Hooter Chassis tour race - November 18th
Mid season double points race - January 14th
Points end - March 18th
Trophy day - March 25th

We hope you come out and have a fun fall/winter season with us!

Anyone that has stopped by our thread here and hasn't gone to the website to check it out further, here is a little more info.

Our track is in a rented building on the McKean Co. Fairgrounds in East Smethport, Pa. during the winter months. It is a 98' ozite carpet oval and we also run a road course that changes in design from year to year (best suited for 1/18 and 1/12 scale cars). We generally provide pit tables and electric, some parts, refreshments, and AMBrc scoring are available. Our weekly racers are a great bunch of guys and ladies that are always willing to help you get started with a setup or share a pinion if you need it. The track has been in this same location for probably 15 years now with myself being the owner for the past 6 years. You can find complete directions to our track from the website.

Shawn..........pancar? Going to step up to the big boys huh? :)

Me, I have the stock truck and EDM ready to go and have a new body all ready to paint for the 1/12 scale in the next couple days.

Have a few pics on the website from last weekends race down at Lucky 13. Just like last year it was a real fun time on the little bullring. Kind of plan on going down again on the 22nd if anyone is interested? Kind of a warmup before we start the 29th. :)

Congrats on landing the Hooter's tour race, but it does bring up a question in my mind: Has the low line voltage problem in that building been addressed? That will be an issue with a room full of guys running multiple Turbo 35s, soldering irons, etc. I've seen readings at those outlets as low as 90 volts, and I know I've never seen over 100v. I know if I have a pancar ready by that time, I'll be bringing a car battery in lieu of a power supply.

One option is we could bring in a couple of generators for the day to help boost the low voltage. During the New Years Day race at Bull Dog Speedway they had to do the same due to low power issues.

OK, now for the really important issue- where's a good place in town to get breakfast?

Sorry but as far as I know the low voltage problem will still exist. :( This side of what Tom suggested I don't know what you could do. And then I believe they just used the generators for the food but could be wrong?

Bob.......check out the directions on my website of how to get to the track. There is a restaurant right on the corner of 6 and 46 where you turn to go to the track that has EXCELLENT food!

Maybe you could get a local electrician to take a look at the breaker panel. It may be a simple case of some loose connections. If you could find one who is into R/C racing, they may not even charge you an arm & a leg. No guarantees but it would be worth a look. The powerstat transformer I played around with last year worked too. A larger version of that would make a few racers with voltage sensitive chargers abit more happy I'm sure. Just a few thoughts, LMK.

So when would you be available to look at it Mr. Fortner? :)

Checked the power down there the other day as well as labeled all the breakers as to what they powered. Voltage ranged from about 111-123. You know that plug right beside the breaker box you like so well? Figured out why........it's the only one on the one breaker circuit. The guy that did the wiring in that place was a moron.

A week till the swap meet now. Just got done shampooing the carpet so we'll let that dry a day or so and then start taping. Kim applied his skills to the electric panel today but came up a few volts short. :( Going to take an outside source to turn the power off and repair or replace the main line coming into the building. On the plus side if we have anybody that has real problems with the voltage Kim brought a toy to "boost da juice" for a few people. :D

Which direction on the front stretch; from right to left? Either way, it sounds cool. Although I'm not too sure the sweeper will work out. That will really be hard on the cars if you clip it and people may trip on the cord also.

Also, what time does the swap meet and practice session get under way on Saturday? Does anybody have any pancars for sale? And Rick,do you have any in the shop? Thought you might keep one in stock this year.

OvalmanPA
10-25-2006, 02:11 PM
Haha......er.......sweeper.  Smart alleck! We'll be running clockwise like last year so straight will run from right to left. I put the tape down already for the drivers area so everybodies toes will be back away from the pipe 24" too. :)

Swap meet/"hot lap" session starts at 4:00 on Saturday. Don't know of anybody that has a pancar in the area and with no racing this summer things have been kind of "thin" so I haven't ordered anything more than necassary so nope, no pancar in the shop. :( So I'm assuming you're coming up Saturday. Hope so 'cause we haven't seen you in years! :)

Not a bad opening weekend. I was kind of surprised to not have a little bigger crowd but it wasn't bad by any means. Was also nice to see a few new faces from other tracks too. The shampooing seems to have changed the traction of the carpet for some of us. :o As I said once during my one 2wd stock race, I've seen D4 bulldozers not push as much as my EDM was!! I guess I'm going to have to concentrate on each vehicle one week and see if I can get them better. Great racing throughout the day however. The A-main stock truck race was a race within a race. There was a fight for 1st and 2nd and then another battle for 3rd and 4th. I would start catching Shawn and then have to pull over and let Court and Denny by so I'd lose time. Reel him in and have to let them by, etc, etc, etc. It was one of those races you really hated to see end though because it was so much fun! Hope to have many more like that this year!

Polli...........not sure just yet. Courtney wants one, I still have mine, Tom will probably have his this week, we might be able to force Dennis into bringing his, Shawn said something about needing tires, not sure on Andy and Mike, and there has been a couple people email me about 1/12 scale racing. So in other words if we could get everybody together at one time we'd probably have about 9-10 of them racing!

Got some tires coming for my 1/12th this week. Should have it ready in a week or two. My goal for this week's racing is to have my pan car ready for some action. It would be nice to get a regular showing of pan cars going here. Not overly expensive cars, 4-cell batts are cheaper than 6's, and not hard to drive; smooth lines are key here. Anybody else?
