WDRA Super Dirt Series to Make First Trek to Liberty Valley
On Sunday September 10th, the WDRA Super Dirt Series will make stop number 8 on the 2006 tour at Liberty Valley Speedway, in Danville, PA. Liberty Valley is a 245’ monster track, which should lead to high speeds and great racing. This event is sponsored by our good friends at Whiplash Batteries and Vinyltrix.com.
Coming into Liberty Valley, 2004 Modified Champion Matt Olmsted and series rookie Jeff Hotaling find themselves deadlocked atop the Modified point standings, each with 682 points and 2 A-Main victories. 2005 Small Block high point man, Lee Morris currently sits third in his rookie Modified season. Former Custom Works Open Wheel Race winners, Jim Carr and Terry Schmitt round out the top 5 Modified point-getters.
In the Big Block Stock division, another series rookie, Dan Gill finds himself at the top of the standings coming out of the last event at Pine Bowl. Just seven points back is defending Big Block series champion Dale Hartzell, who will be looking to regain the point lead in his home state of Pennsylvania. Drivers pulling double-duty in 2006 round out the top 5 in points, with Lee Morris in third followed by Jeff Hotaling and Jim Carr.
In the Small Block ranks, Sean "Meatball" Leonard currently holds a huge lead over Jan Poyneer. Cagey veteran EJ French sits in third with "Captain Cupcake" Bob Egan in 4th. Larry Morris rounds out the top 5. Each of these drivers will be looking to rebound from difficult outings in the last event at Pine Bowl.
Of course, it is expected that some members of the PA Posse will be on hand to defend their home state honors from the New York invaders.
Also joining the WDRA point racers will be Nitro EDMs and Sprinters. On Saturday September 9th, Liberty Valley will host a warm-up featuring their regular racing card along with the WDRA electric classes. While the WDRA point classes on Sunday will abide by the WDRA foam tire rule, all other racing during the weekend will be open to foam or rubber (no pin spikes).
Be sure to check the Liberty Valley website for information on start times, directions and lodging information. http://www.libertyvalleyspeedway.com (http://www.libertyvalleyspeedway.com/)
If you have a generator, you may want to bring it, as Liberty Valley is not really set up for electric racing. Electricity is available but supply could be limited. I’m sure we can all work together on this subject.
