Spotted this on eeeBay: an auction from a Canadian seller that went for 431$, for a rare AFX Ford Escort in the desirable Castrol livery
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170018746435 (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1606754-5463217?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D1700187464)

Until now, all is normal: the guy explain that he is selling his collection of slotcars for raising money because his bike get stolen recently...

Excellent reputation, more than 400 feedback / 100% positive

well, well, well

But check this link now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200019436101 (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1606754-5463217?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D2000194361)

It's apparently located in China (?), it's exactly the same Castrol Escort and for a BYN of around 100 bucks only...
and moreover, the description is exactly the same, word for word: bike get stolen recently, guy needing money, blah blah blah

And if you check the other items he has for sale, it's mainly rare (rarer...) AFX cars, and all with almost the same BYN price

Want some more? If you check this link, a rare AFX Shadow sold by the same canadian guy for 421$
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170018893054 (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1606754-5463217?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D1700188930)

...and as you guessed, the chinese guy has the very same for sale now with a BYN for 100$
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200019437266 (http://www.qksrv.net/click-1606754-5463217?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D2000194372)

Is it a bug in eeeBay! or a true scam ??

There is no way that those very rare cars and the same wording comes up like that. It's gotta be copied from the first guy. Anybody fluent in Chinese?

I had a buddy selling some R/C cars on e-Bay that were kind of unique and rare like this and he said shortly after he sold his stuff someone pointed out to him that some seller in China was using the exact same pictures and description selling the same car for a different price. He reported it to e-Bay and yes, it ended up being a scam.

Just never know. When you post pictures publicly along with a description, you e-mail addy, etc., anybody can snag that info and start posing as you. Lower form of identity theft I guess.

Good work Zanza! We can only hope he's getting bamboo shoved under his nails at this very moment.

Good work Zanza! We can only hope he's getting bamboo shoved under his nails at this very moment.

It's weird, though... they seem to have broken the links to the legit auctions too...

My wife had her account hacked, some guy in Italy "selling" rolex watches, money transfers only. Luckily we were alerted by a question about one of the auctions that got past the hacker, he had answered earlier questions about why address in Italy when ID history showed NJ. Stated was selling on behalf of sick family member in Italy and could not access American bank accounts from Europe. Luckily we were able to notify eBay!
b4 auctions ended and they were pulled. We learned that these hackers look for people w/ good feedback ratings that aren't very active. I would reconmend anybody w/ an Ebay account to check "My Ebay" at least once a week. At least in our case the fraudulent auctions did show up in that listing.

Yeah, actually, my wife is dealing with an issue right now! She just bought what she thought was a legit good deal on a Fendi Spy purse only to find that they account that was being used was hi-jacked. She even paid for it already!!! DOH! So we are going through a full dispute right now! We just need to pay close attention when buying on e-Bay right now. This particular account could have been questioned because when my wife went back to look at things, the account said they seller was located in Austin, Texas, but the dollar amount was shown in GPB and had International shipping! At any rate, hopefully PayPal will come through since it all went down today. Worst case, we put a stop payment on the credit card ASAP.

Be on alert! Scammers are out in droves right now!
