Can someone help explain the lack of a track or tracks around the Charlotte/Mooresville area of NC. With the concentration of racers in this area you would think someone or a group of people would step up to the plate. I for one would step up with some reputable others if it was feasible and it provided a first class track in this area. Just my thoughts.

I agree, it's hard to believe there is only one carpet oval in all of NC.

That 1 carpet Oval is now gone..too due to sad death.. Hope somebody does do something for indoors... Flat oval with enough roon to explore touring and 1/12 road racing would be a major hit . Other big help would be dirt off roaders looking to a place to race as charlottes and NC only indoor track also closed.. That would attract them for sure to carpet racing..

Rumors Are Abound That Sandhills May Be Purchased By A Certain Rc Accessory Manufacturer. If This Does Happen, Then There May Be A Concrete Oval Possibly Replacing The Off Road Outside. Also That Bussiness Would Be Moved There As Well. I Caught Wind Of This, Just This Weekend. We Will Just Have To Wait And Keep Our Fingers Crossed!!!

Its tru this place deserves some quality(1st class) facilities. Im not in the position to fork out 100's of thousands of dollars but with the right partners this could happen. Spread the word. Its a shame there is no track here.

How do you think a club type track would go over? Something along the lines of certain number would commit to paying "monthly" type dues to help cover some of the cost of a first class facility. I think its just a shame this is the capital of racing and there is no where for the "true" racers to race.

I would go for that maybe a $20 fee per month till things get rolling then hopefully the track would be able to run from it's own revenue...

Some places like Sandhills could support the size they were because of other business interests and the fact that Fabio was so loyal to the hobby, but the fact remains that around this area(Mt. Holly, Charlotte, Mooresville) the prices the real estate companies are asking for decent size buildings to support aa A-1 facility is quite astounding. They would rather keep the building empty for a tax write off then to lower the rent just in the interest of some who want to play with "toy" cars.

SO Has anyone heard anything more on the Sandhills track?

If you don't use it, you lose it. Ther have been plenty of great tracks but racers took them for granted, didn't support them regular enough to keep them in business and they closed up.

Anyone spending 10's of thousands of dollars to open an oval track or an indoor track would have to be nuts. They've been done and didn't get enough continuous support to stay open. Racers nit-picked the Charlotte indoor offroad track to death with their wish lists, the owners could never please everyone so when people didnt get their way they took their toys and quit like little children. So why should anyone put up with that? Who would willfully subject themselves to that kind of abuse? So now the offroaders better stock up on thermal underwear cuz it's gonna be a chilly winter of racing for them.

Sandhill's didn't go down like that Craig. When the owner dies there are other things to consider. I think it will take time but we should hear something from the group there sometime down the road. It is sad to lose a good friend and owner like that but that is life and he will be missed. Just hope things will work out for the best.

Kevin, Sandhills was not one that I was referring to. Sandhills has been an icon for indoor carpet racing for years. It is unfortunate that it's closing has come about the way it has. Maybe someone will pick up the baton and continue running it.
