View Full Version : GLQSR (Great Lakes Quarter Scale Racers)
jbell31 08-20-2006, 02:47 PM Hello everyone. If you haven't experianced Quarter Scale racing, It's the closest thing to big car racing without strapping on a belt!!! Please visit one of the many sites that are out there.
The Great Lakes Quarter Scale Racers club is:

QSAC
http://qsac.org
I plan on building up and promoting as much the R/C hobbie as I can. I'd like to see more 1/10 and 1/4 scale races together. I did some racing in Akron OHIO and just had a blast.
More to come, Please feel free to contact me for information.

Sonny B 08-20-2006, 06:50 PM Hi Jim great to see a 1/4 scale forum on here.
Do you have any results form Royal OAK this weekend?
jbell31 08-20-2006, 07:45 PM Thanks Sonny, I don't have the results yet, but I plan on posting them as soon as I get them. I will post them here and on the GLQSR site. I hope they took some pictures too. I wasn't able to attend due to a prior comitment.

hankster 08-25-2006, 06:00 PM What time do the races start at GLQSR? Might stop up there on Sunday and have a look.
jbell31 08-26-2006, 05:40 PM Hank,
We start racing at about noon. Gates open at 8AM. We don't start the cars untal about 9Am in respect to the neighbors. Call me if you need directions.
Jim.
hankster 08-26-2006, 07:40 PM Got directions on the web site. Know where Funtyme is at so should be able to find the track. Thanks, look forward to checking it out.
IHAUL 08-28-2006, 08:32 PM Hank we missed you sunday
hankster 08-28-2006, 11:08 PM I was there most of the day.
jbell31 08-29-2006, 03:50 PM Yep, Hank was there and fun was had by all. There were 19 that showed up, but no sprint cars. Not bad considering the weather. All the 7 Sportsman finished on the same lap. It was a crash fest of sort, but close racing will do that.
Thanks Hank for stopping by. I can introduce you to several quarter scale car manufactures. lol
Thanks Bob and Dick from Akron Oh for racing with us. You guys have a real nice track in Akron too. Walt is a very gracious host and I plan on going there again this year.
Here is a picture from Akron:
restodick55 08-30-2006, 12:51 PM Jim,
Just wanted to thank you and all of your fellow club members for a great afternoon of racing. I think I was grinning all the way home.
You all have a wonderful facility there, I hope that you all appreciate that and do all you can to ensure that you can keep it. Good sites are very hard to find.
I also agree that the best thing that can happen to our sport is for more people to get involved and then visit other tracks and meet new friends. I personally value the friendships I have made more than anything else.
Thanks again for a fabulous time, we are looking foward to coming up again!
Dick

IHAUL 09-06-2006, 07:30 PM entry fee is $30. saturday
friday pactice starts at noon
on motors until 9:00 am for neighbors
jbell31 09-10-2006, 04:43 PM Stan Smith won the new red cap motor at the Tri State race Saturady. The motor was donated by Frank Boling & Todd Neal of QS Components / Racing Rod Ends: http://www.racingrodends.com. Thanks. You guys are awsome!!!
jbell31 09-20-2006, 08:53 PM The 8th and final points race has come and gone. What a fantastic time we all had. the racing was close, clean, and loads of fun. the weather was a sharp contrast to the week before. Just a great day to race.
In Grand National, It was nice to see Randy Erb back at the track. Randy ended up with the win when Mike Reniger bobbled on lap 192 to put himself a lap down. Mike lead most of the race and did not give up the lead until lap 140. They traded the lead several times before lap 192. They had such a close race Mike and Randy decided to go a few extra, just for giggles. These boys are fun to watch!!
In the Sportsman class, Randy Brown and I had battle and a half for the entire 150 laps. Randy had the slight edge in the end (2 seconds), and there was only one or two yellow flag laps.
In Sprint, Doug Mccullum had a fantastic win over Randy Baker. (Sure seems to be a lot of Randy's at this track). Randy and Doug traded the lead only twice, with Doug leading at the start and finish. This was another clean race with only one caution. Orrin Sunde and Tim Bloom made up the rest of the field and both kept pace for most of the race.
In the Novice or Bush class, Dwayne Dryer, Tom Franks and John Colosky had a battle to finish. Dwayne finished in the lead with Tom clipping at his heals and John not to far behind. Maurice Randall completed the field as this was only his second apperance. He has shown great improvement. Tom and Dwayne are just as new to the sport, comming from 1/5 scale sedan class. Something tells me they like the big cars better.
Tim Mc 09-21-2006, 12:51 AM Jim,
come South with Randy Brown in Nov. to race with us at LPR. It should still be mild weather here.
It sounds like you guys had a great season up that way. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/icons/icon10.gif
jbell31 09-21-2006, 07:42 AM Thanks for the invite!! I don't know if my job, or the wife will allow me the time, but I will sure try. I'd love to go there, looks like a nice track.
My sister lives in West Palm Beach and had a house in Atlanta until this past year. It'd be nice to do some visiting, and racing.
I'll find out when Randy is going down...

http://glqsr.homestead.com/Tri-State.pdf
jbell31 10-06-2006, 07:34 PM We're having a final, end of season race on Sunday, October 15 at the Lansing track.
We'll practice in the morning just like we always do but then we'll have two 100 lap races for each class with the second race inverting the field based on the first race's finishing order. So we'll have lots of green flag racing for everyone!
Hope to see a big turn out for this last race of the season!!
jbell31 10-17-2006, 07:46 AM Well the twin 100s actualy was three 100s on cold but sunny day in Grand Ledge. We renamed it the "Winter Slam".This was a fun race, and we had 9 people show up. Amazing because it was frosty and 33 at the time we put the first car on the track. Check out the pictures on the GLQSR website. Send me your comments, I'd be happy to post them there as well.
We started out with no qualifiers, mainly because we had no one to run the computer. So we had to start the race, run a yellow lap and go. everything was a red flag, but it was funny. We ran more green laps then we otherwise would have. Food for thought?
IN2RACIN 10-17-2006, 02:44 PM Wow, 33 is freakin' COLD! That is what some call dedication! :-)

The site looks great! You might offer a setup sheet download & a gear chart? Other than that, you have everything else covered!
jbell31 11-03-2006, 11:33 AM Thank you kind sir. I was planning on adding that and a few other thing too.
I'm trying to find a online shop that offers the 280 290 300 and 310 belts for a good price. I found a place in michigan, but they don't have a website. It's just a local shop.
There are a ton of setup sheets out there, so I want to take the best parts of them and post a one pager.
I appriciate your input!!
Tim Mc 11-03-2006, 12:49 PM Jim,
Try Napa & Motion Industries on the belts.
Tim
jbell31 11-06-2006, 05:39 PM I just recieved the note from Donald Ethredge of Graphic Results. Many of you may know or have used the decals he offered.
__________________________________________________ _______________
From Donald E. Ethredge,
Due to recent issues I will no longer be producing any type of decals which contain any type of corporate logo without a letter of release from the copyright owner, this will greatly reduce my offerings..which basically means I can do car numbers along with your team and local type business or personal informationn.
I'm also asking if anyone is interested in helping me out with legal fees I could use donations or people to by two bodies at cost of 160.00 which includes shipping. Paypal gresults@aol.com just put info two body special.
I currentlly have settlement fee of 12,500.00 that needs to be paid, which is hundreds of times over what I ever made making decals, This amount maybe adjusted once I speak with the law firm Monday, if it does I'll send a update.
If you would like to make donations they can be sent to my paypal account gresults@aol.com
Items For Sale:
I also have a 7 x 16 Wedge Custom Trailer that needs to sold, I would like to get 8500.00 for it but at this stage in the game any offer that is reasonable.
I also have a smaller 6x12 trailer that I could sale also..2300.00
Older WCM make offer
Older pro1 make offer
I will be working on a list of items that I will have For Sale..

Track Description: Lansing is a "D" shaped oval. Fairly flat. Coming off of turn 2 can sometimes be tricky. The backstretch is fast, It provides for some really good racing. It is also the home track for the GLQSR.
IHAUL 11-09-2006, 07:37 PM Jim
R C cars mag. december
has 1/4 scale / Alabama race
inside
jbell31 11-12-2006, 10:13 AM Yep, I heard about that, but I don't have a subscription :(
It's been a long time since I've taken any interest in that magazine and many others. They usually cover anything but Oval. I understand why, but we’re part of the hobby too!
I wish they would do more to promote oval and quarter scale like they used to.

I wish I could have video taped my races!!! :(
