Plans for the SPEC racing class that we have been discussing for the past several months hit a bit of a snag today. Upon calling Pro-Match to place our first order for the 4 cell spec 2000 battery packs I got some bad news. It seems that the cells that Pro-Match received from GP were much poorer in performance than the original samples that they had tested. They tell me that they should only be charged at 2-2.5 amps. Though they could be done at 3 amps the life of the cells would be shortened considerably.
They are sending us a couple of packs to try but it sounds like the results could be disappointing.
As soon as we get the sample packs we'll get some runs in to get an idea of lap times and run time. They have lots of the cells available if we decide to go ahead and use them, and a 4 cell pack will probably sell for about $15.
The other rules for the class are to be:
BSR spec green rear and green or silver compound fronts(with the spec yellow stripe).
Trinity "handout" motor - like a monster or epic but chrome can w/ purple endbell epoxy balanced.
Finish Line "F" brush full face no cuts.

Will spread the word on the batteries as soon as we get a chance to run them, probably around the middle of next week.

Good news. We will have GP3800 spec 4 cell packs in stock in the next few days. They should sell for under $20.00 assembled!

Ken-

Are we going to use the 3800s instead of the 2000s?

NASCR3
08-26-2006, 12:25 PM
Yes Rich we will be using 3800 spec 4 cell packs. Apparently the other 2000's were no good and too much of a liability to take a chance on. Ken found a source for these 3800's which will be much more durable, reliable and obviously better in performance than the 2000's were going to be. Price should be very competitive with what we were looking at for the others as well.

Thanks,
John

That's correct. The 3800's will be our SPEC pack for the Spec Sportsman class and probably for the SK open wheel class as well if we can get that one going.
Looks like they will sell for $19.50 assembled and ready to run.
I estimate having the first batch of them ready for sale by Thursday or Friday this coming week.

The labels for the spec motors should be here on Friday. There is a temporary shortage of the Finish Line brushed that we are using for the spec class. Should have more in next week. I have 6 pair left which I will make available one pair each with the motors. If some of you have already stocked up please consider selling a pair to a fellow spec raCer if needed. If anyone can't get them for the first week, we will allow any brush THIS WEEK ONLY.

The SPEC motors are ready to go($24.95). They are the same as a Trinity Monster motor but with a chrome can, purple endbell and epoxy balanced arm. RCH Raceway label must remain on to be legal. You will have to add the brushes and springs. The Finish Line "F" brush is required for SPEC racing. We have a few pair left if you haven't stocked up yet. Should have more next week. Dave L. has a few pair to spare also if we run out. Any springs OK. Also have about 15 of the SPEC IB3800 4 cell pack available right now($19.50). The labels on the battery packs must also remain intact to be SPEC legal. BSR spec tires with the yellow stripe, green rears, green or silver fronts allowed. Have about 10 pair of each in stock right now.

Chris T will be looking for someone to run with, either Pro-Stock or 19T.
Are Rod & Dan ready to go yet?

The new carpet is real smooth with plenty of grip.

We have heard a few people asking if we will be running for points this season. Since there seems to be some interest, here's what we've planned.

The point season will run from Oct. 14 thru Mar. 31. There will be 21 Saturday night points races. Best 18 of 21 races will count toward each drivers total points. A driver must compete in a class at least 10 times to qualify for an award.

Tentatively scheduled for this season are three thropy races on the weekends of Oct. 28(Halloween Classic), January 20(Winter Warm-up), and March 10(Adirondack Carpet Oval Challenge). These events will not be point series races.

I should be ready to rock by the end of october. I might be buying another 240sx (that would make 3) so that will set me back 2 weeks so def. end of oct i will be ready to run spec.

More Spec motors and 3800 cells should be arriving Wed. or Thur.
More tires end of the week. We will be building packs all day!
Also SK chassis's and kits from Rolls-Knardly should be in this week.
SK's are a blast to race!

The SK chassis alone is $22.00. Takes standard Associated front end, L3/L4 rear pod side plates, pan car rear axle and hubs, and a set of old style RC10 battery cups. So many of you could build one from spare parts you may already have.
Rolls-Kanardly sells a kit with the front end, pod plates, IRS axle and hubs, batt. cups, body posts, etc. Basiclly every thing but electronics and tires.
I should have both the chassis and the kits in on Friday. I think the kit will sell for about $180.

We'll be running the same tires/batteries/motors as our spec stock class.

The are a blast to drive.

There is some talk of tire wear with the spec green tires on the new carpet. We are open to adding the gold compound rear tires to the legal list if there are no objections. Let us know what you think.

Razoo
09-28-2006, 04:28 PM
I don't care what rule changes are made, once you decide let us know so we can purchase the correct compound. My concern is that the carpet is going to change over time since its new so are we going to be chasing tire compounds every week or so?

rcrc805
09-28-2006, 05:59 PM
This is simply thrown out for discussion because a couple of people have asked. There is nothing wrong with the greens. The cars handle great with them. Golds are just a little firmer and may wear longer. If the tire wears longer that keeps costs down. Tire wear should decrease once the track has some more laps on it anyway.

wkbracing
09-28-2006, 06:01 PM
not to start anything but being a bsr driver I would expect that the cars would handle and run better on a track like kens with a green spec rear left tire and a gold spec rear right tire, they are both spec tires and the lower wear of the gold tire would keep the tires more even for a night of racing, however if you run your cars without stager you could stick with the greens and swap them side to side every run. either way they are both spec tires and it will be less costly than normal tires.

Cool, a different compound on every wheel! For about $75.00 just in tires your good to go.

Yes the carpet is likely to change gradually.
The gold rear is the only other spec tire other than a hard blue front, which you sure wouldn't want on a flat track. So if added it would be the only possible change. You would have the choice of 2 rear and 2 front compounds. And again, for now this is just up for discussion. I only brought it up because a couple of people asked, and I wanted to see how everyone else felt about it

Keep in mind that one pair each of gold rears, green rears, silver fronts and green fronts is about $62. That's for 2 full sets of tires!

Tommygun43
09-28-2006, 08:17 PM
They make a Silver Spec front tire also, that should work well and last waaay longer. You would be able to do cool traction rolls with the green though.

My feelings exactly , the green rears are wearing like .015-.020 a round , so a harder rear would help i feel and it's still gonna be way cheaper than exotics @ 25-28 $ a pair , everyone must remember this is all new to all of us so RELAX take a deep breathe and help us figure this all out together .......and remember that you dont have to buy gold rears if you dont want to !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks Dave L

Razoo
09-28-2006, 08:39 PM
Tell you what, get a set of golds and give them to someone to test for a night of racing and see if they wear better or not (how about Lareau or Lapan). Thats really the only way were going to know for sure. Until then its only a guess.

disruptor10

Why dont we do this , TEST A PAIR OF GOLD REARS before we go jumpin to conclusions ? sounds like the smartest idea , do we all agree ?

Can you tell Spec Greens apart from Spec Golds by the yellow spec stripe? Just curious?

Razoo
09-28-2006, 09:36 PM
Maybe the carpet needs to be flipped over and we could run 1/2 the races going left and the other 1/2 going right. :hat:
BUT if you don't want to do that, then do some tire testing.

09-28-2006, 09:42 PM

(F1013-specsilver)

The silver spec front is already being used by most as a right front.

Can you tell Spec Greens apart from Spec Golds by the yellow spec stripe? Just curious?

You can't tell the compound from the stripe. The stripe just verify's that it is a spec tire.

Tommygun43
09-29-2006, 12:30 PM
Just read back and see the silver front is allowed. I thought you had to use 4 greens.
