'City Slickers' actor Bruno Kirby dies By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 7 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Bruno Kirby, a veteran character actor who costarred in "When Harry Met Sally," "City Slickers" and many other films, has died at age 57, his wife said Tuesday. ADVERTISEMENT Kirby died Monday in Los Angeles from complications related to leukemia, according to a statement from his wife, Lynn Sellers. He had recently been diagnosed with the disease. "We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from Bruno's fans and colleagues who have admired and respected his work over the past 30 years," his wife said. "Bruno's spirit will continue to live on not only in his rich body of film and television work but also through the lives of individuals he has touched throughout his life." Kirby was perhaps best known for his roles opposite Billy Crystal in 1989's "When Harry Met Sally" and 1991's "City Slickers." Other film credits included "Good Morning, Vietnam," "The Godfather: Part II" and "Donnie Brasco." More recently, he played Phil Rubenstein on the HBO series "Entourage." A couple of my favorite Kirby performances: The young Clemenza in "Godfather II", and the overly talkative cabbie in "This is Spinal Tap". I'm sorry to hear that he's gone. yamahog 08-16-2006, 03:08 AM He was always good. PhilipMarlowe 08-16-2006, 05:18 PM Loved him in The Freshman and High Anxiety, and he was usually even good in supporting roles in those Nora Ephron chick-flicks. He'll be missed. gruffydd 08-18-2006, 03:02 PM I'm just a movie-watcher for the last 40 years who ALWAYS GOT A THRILL whenever I saw him turn up in the movie, knowing that I was about to witness another of his MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCES. I'll never forget the first time I saw "Cinderella Liberty" at age 14 and "Modern Romance" a dozen years later. I could not help but love this man. The Batman 08-18-2006, 04:13 PM He was always good.
