I could sure use some lawnmower help.

I have an old 1987 Craftsman lawnmower. I added oil the other day and now the cap wont stay tight. (The oil cap has a dipstick attached.) I used lawnmower oil. :confused:

When I start mowing the lawn, about 5 minutes into it, and the cap jiggles off and oil runs all over the place. Other than that, the mower is still in great shape - starts and runs good.

I know nothing about engines. Any help is appreciated.

sounds like the threads got stripped or just plain worn out. I'd try and replace it, make sure you didn't strip it when you put it back on.

I looked at the dipstick cap, and its the twist type (with no threads). Then I looked in the owners manual. Looks like maybe theres an "O" ring missing. thanks again.
