Pretty big talk for a guy that got his but kicked by Sully at the last brushless race he attended.

If you really want to know the answer come to an event and just take a look in front of you on the starting grid or right behind you at the 2 minute mark.. Remember lapped cars should always move out of the leaders way.
Yeah to bad we can't teach Koback that trick. As for Sully, even his brother Lincoln won the war, it's only fitting that I let him tq a brushless race.

I'm still not sure that this brushless thing is going to catch on!!!!!!!! LOL

Thanks Sonny, great job, as usual.

Thanks to all the sponsors who have stepped forward to make this potentially the best series ever.

I guess I'll have to buy a pile of motors just to find the one that will get me into an A main. HA HA HA. ( I doubt that they make one of those yet)

1st or last it will still be a good time, with Sonny in charge I have no doubt.

What are the Three Classes?

Danny B
08-17-2006, 01:10 PM
Stock 13.5 turn

4300 10.5 turn

Open Brushless

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Do we get a prize if we run all 7 races?

What are the Three Classes?

Rules are still being finalized but here is a basic class outline.

Sportsman Stock - Targeted at entry level to experienced 4 cell stock racers with provisions to keep it cost reduced. This class will use the new Novak Super Sport 13.5 Stock motor (NOV 3413) and any Novak or LRP ESC. Full stock car body with spoiler only (no wings) Rear of the body must remain intact (no cut outs). 4200 mah batteries max, limited to 2 battery packs for the weekend that must be pre-teched and marked. Race length 5 minutes

Pro 4300 - This will likely be the largest class and back bone of the series. The Novak Super Sport 4300 motor (NOV3401) will be used along with any Novak or LRP brushless ESC’s . Stock car body, rear cut out ok, Wings ok. 4200mah batteries max , no limit to number of packs used. Race length 5 minutes.

Pro Modified - The fastest class intended for experienced drivers. A list of approved motors will be provided at the moment it would include any available Novak or LRP brushless modified. Any Novak or LRP brushless ESC’s may be used. Stock car body, rear cut out ok, Wings ok. 4200mah batteries max , no limit to number of packs used. Race length 4 minutes.

Stock racers will not be allowed in Pro Mod. Mod drivers will not be allowed in stock. Pro 4300 is open to everyone.

As announced last night RaceFanRadio.com will be offering a $1000 cash bonus to any driver who can win the National Points Title in two classes.

First, this is going to be an awesome series, and hopefully it brings back to oval racing some of its old glory.
Couple of thoughts though, take them for what they're worth (usually about 2 cents Canadian)...

13.5 Stock class sounds good. I was considering it for my second class at the regional races, but since Allen's will have an entry limit I think most of us will have the courtesy to just run the class they're ranked higher in. Anyways, I was laughing at the two packs per weekend rule though. I'm gonna drive 644 round trip miles to Vinton, 422 to Omaha, 1138 to Cincy, 642 to Rochester (About $450 in gas all told), along with 10 nights in hotels ($500), and you're worried about me spending an extra $50 on a battery pack? Chances are I'll make due to with 2, and the intentions are good, but the math was kind of funny
The points system also seems a bit tweaked. Only your best four races count to the championship, but then there are bonus points for attending additional races? I understand wanting to give people the incentive to attend as many regional races as possible, but I figured the bonus for attending additional races was that you had the chance to improve on your best four finishes.

Like I said just thoughts to mention before the rules go official in two weeks.

Regardless, I figure I've got about 140 days to convince my wife that Cincinnati is a wonderful places to spend a January weekend.

 Great job putting this together Sonny

I used 2 packs at Allens last year and finished 11th. 2 is plenty.

Its good enough, but I'm typically more comfortable with three. Personal preference kind of thing.
Its just a rule that it seems was created with the intent to keep costs down, but the cost of an extra pack is a splash in the bucket compared to the costs of being at the races in the first place.
Just a thought, I'll be there running whatever the rules are anyways :)

Yeah I know. Keeping costs down is really not possible these days as competitive as it is now.

How about Sonny starts passing out frequent flyer miles to keep costs down! lol

Myself, I like the rule. Not as a cost savings matter but just having it. I don't need to help clean out the sponsors good packs leaving more for sale. I like knowing which pack to run instead of looking a assortment of 10-12 packs.

I just like the rule ;)

I believe the only race that there is a premium on points if the Finals in Springfield, 1 1/2 for the points earned in the finals.

Sonny, thanks for the huge effort to put oval racing back on the map. You know how I feel about brushless racing, I'll never put a brushed motor in my car again. Hopefully many tracks will adopt this rules package besides the tracks that are running the regional events. I have already blocked off all seven of the weekends on my calender to attend all of the events. I'm especially looking forward to the Cinci and Omaha rounds.

I do have some constructive criticism though, why not have the same body/wing rule for all the classes? This is my problem with all spec classes that don't allow wings, we are making tuning more difficult for the people who know the least about chassis tuning. Most tracks allow wings in their brushed stock class why not carry that over to the 13.5 class? It would also encourage more people to run two classes by simply switching the 4300 & 13.5 motors without having a second chassis.

Good Point Bob. uniformity in classes for the series and with what is done at 90% of the local tracks would help to get racers(new and existing) to build the Brushless classes. It would be nice to know that all I had to do was bolt in the brushless system (13.5) and still race as I have in stock.

Cbear3 - Point noted on the battery deal. However it does help simplify things for a new races. We do hope to bring some of those guys in. I’ll think about it.

BTW: The battery packs that TQ’d and won the brushless races in Vinton and Omaha last fall were used 5 times on qualifying day and 3 times on the day of the mains.

Regarding the points this format is similar to what I’ve raced in a few other series. I think drivers should receive some reward for attending as many events as possible. When we post the points structure it will make a little more sense.

Bob Wright- Thank for thoughts and comments. As I said last night if we keep doing things the same way we will end up with the same results. We have to try some things that may be a little different then what we are use to.

To a newcomer the cars look 100% better without those funny looking plastic things on the rear. They look like the cars they see their favorite Nascar drivers driving on TV every week. We have to find away for newbies to connect with our hobby. When I managed the tack in Indy we had a 6 cell sportsman class that ran a full body no wing and was week in and week one of our largest class. It also probably had the most amount of new racers.

IMO if we can help new racers by making sure their car is built correctly and their set-up is in the ball park coupled with the high traction levels of carpet racing the lack of a wing should not be a problem. If it is we will address it.

As far as having single chassis that you could switch motors and run in two classes in theory that makes good since. In reality at most races I’ve been to lately is that everyone seems to have a separate car for each class especially stock. Chassis set-up and tires seem to be so different most will not want to switch the car every round. So I’m not sure it’s that big of an issue.

If anyone has questions or comments drop me an e-mail at sbrown15@insightbb.com.

I talked to the WhiteBoy today. He had commented about maybe doing just that, the stock and 4300. It will be just the 4300 for me.

Hey sonny what if you allowed the rear of the body to be cut out and no wing? It could elminate a few accidents, seeing how most of the 4300 series cars run nose to tail now.

Great ideal and keep up the good work.

13.5 should be interesting.

How much gear will be too much?

Will they thermal?

How much battery will you have left after the race?

Will they fall off like a brush motor?

Should be interesting.
