A moderate overheating will damage the processor. I doubt the motherboard was effected due to the heat from the processor is designed to transfer towards the Heat sink\fan. Unfortunately the only way to find out is replace the processor and try it. I M H O. Sometimes the heat in a chip creates a crack in the wires or solder joint that connect it. When the connection is cold it connects fine and all is well but when it heats up the crack opens the circuit and POOF no data transfer. Just so happens I attach this type wire for a living but it cannot be repaired I work in an expiramental lab where we see the insides you cannot.
