I've seen mentioned here that these engines should ONLY have 10w30 run in them. Something about the Hydraulic Lifters.
I assume this is year-round (given a typical 20deg to 100deg year round temp swing).
This is a bit out of line with the manual, or not. Depending on how you read it :)
I plan on running Castrol GTX 10w30 year round.
Anyone see any issues with this?

No issues, expect more consumption with a multi weight conventional...... than compared to a synthetic (wouldn't use castrol syntec, overpriced hydrocracked petroleum)

Kohler seems to have an aversion to Synthetic. I don't know why. All of their docuentation states that if you use Synthetic it can only be used up to 32deg F.
Weird...
All of my later B&S motors (Generator with an 11hp Intek OHV, push mower with a 7HP OHV, etc...) state that Synthetic is their choice, and 5w30 is good year round in all climates. I even use it in my old 15 year old pressure washer.
Not sure why Kohler doesn't think much of Synthetic but hey, they built it. I'll follow their recommendation :)

They are probablly going about it like any conventional..... most 10w-30 synthetics like amsoils or mobils can actually be called straight 30 wieghts. (which amsoil does)
