View Full Version : Need help on LL tires..
WesJY 08-09-2006, 04:08 AM I recently bought 4 dodge charger LL like three weeks ago (from walthers website) and I raced them last friday - I was having miserable time with them they deslot alot. I tried supertires silicone tires (maybe i am using wrong size but anyone know what size is right?) - didnt work.. I did try two different brand for LL.
I am using 4 lane tyco tracks - fyi.
The chassis is called fast traxx? it has two small dot magnet in the rear i think they are the new m chassis? I am mostly tyco guys i use supertires for tyco cars with no problem.
anyway i need some advice on which silicone tires i should buy for LL .. or those lifelike chassis are crap? let me know asap.
thanks!
Wes
clausheupel 08-09-2006, 07:29 AM Hi Wes,
these LL chassis are definitely no crap (IMHO)! I always was (and still am) a fan of LL chassis when it comes down to magnet car racing.
What you have sounds like the newer "T-chassis" (independent, press-on front wheels?) which is usually regarded as inferior to the "classic M-chassis".
I never managed to kill one of the T-chassis so far, but you really need the right silicones to have fun racing them. Sorry, I donīt know the correct size right now here at work, but you definitely need other tires than for a Tyco chassis!!!
If noone else has the dimensions handy I can take a look tonight at my selfmade tires Iīm using on LL chassis...

Those are top speed geared cars....they want to spin up on the straights.
Get regular gearing and try one.
Montoya1 08-09-2006, 07:43 AM we run these on our large tracks (check out the gallery at eahorc.com) and they are sensational. the traction mags are rather narrow which is why I use Tjet tyres on them to really slam the back end down....

...ainīt rocket science (at least thatīs what Weird Jack once said), as long as weīre talking about slip-on sillies! :p
Itīs plain simple and nothing more than pouring silicone into an "open top" resin mold.
I have molds for every kind of HO tires I need, but I still buy tires from Weird Jack, because his compound works best on certain tracks I race on!

smokinHOs 08-09-2006, 03:23 PM Here's the magic.. I use BSRT HOTT slip-on silicone tires with .250 rear double flange rims. The set-up is very inexpensive and easy to try different heights. Usually I will run the green, white, or red tires (which on a .250 rim are different sizes) to fine tune. No need to speed $8-$10 a pair for silicone coated sponge tires, the LLs don't need them on Tyco track. Maybe once you dial in your height with the slip-ons you can order a correct size of coated tires. Remember though- sponge tires get squished by downforce from the mags, slip-ons don't compress as much. Make sure you take that into consideration when choosing the feet for your cars. Try a 7/22 or 7/23 gear ratio as well.. Good luck!

roadrner 08-09-2006, 10:32 PM I used to order Supertires .434, 438 & .446/Composition A for my early LL slot chassis (M styles I believe) without any problems. Slipped on and stayed on even at their highest speeds (stock). Gave me various profile options for the chassis and the body. They were relatively inexpensive and he always included extras and other samples in your order. rr
