Just a quick ? for more experienced collectors. Who used HO tires with "Continental" molded in? I was going through a pile o' stuff from the 'bay and found a set of these. Also found a pair of Aurora pickup shoes with the contact portion only about 2/3 as long as a regular shoe. Are these for the slimline cars? Thanks.

I looked at several slimline chassis including one NOS and the pickup shoes all look the same as standard t-jet. Could they be hop-up shoes? I have a couple similar though the contact portion looks shorter than 2/3, maybe 1/2 standard. I am pretty sure they date from the early 70's/AFX time frame.
Don't know about the Continental tires.

Continental tires, if I'm not mistaken, were on Faller cars. And I think those short contact patch shoes are just early Tjet shoes. I have a few sets. A collector once told me I should take them off the runner I was blasting around the track at the time and put them on a solid rivet chassis under an early body like a Riviera or a Falcon... makes it more "correct"...

??? Maybe so, but I've got my own original Tjets, Jag XK 140's with the factory spacer to fit the Tjet chassis, and several other very early Tjets - #1's with and without the nylon gear and #2's, and they all have essentially the same copper pickups. I guess I need to pay big bucks for a NOS hopup kit to see the replacement shoes that came in it.
