I hate to make fun of a guy by name but Bill Warren is a public person. He's published a book (KEE WATCHING THE SKIES) and can be seen in one of the extra features on the Image PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE disc.
Bill used to post on the Sinister Cinema board. I used to post there myself. Bill and I got into a few lively discussions because he lacked even the most rudimentary understanding of video. It was enormously frustrating. Bill could NEVER understand that an anamorphic DVD didn't have to come from an anamorphic film print. No matter how many times I tried to explain it in the most simple terms, he hadn't the slightest concept of video technology.
His EXACT words to me was that he didn't care about anamorphic DVDs because he "...is never going to buy an anamorphic TV set". Oh Bill! There is no such thing as an anamorphic TV. Months of explaining the idea of "Enhanced for widescreen TV" and Bill tells me he isn't buying an anamorphic TV so he doesn't care!
I found this post by Bill on another forum. It's a question about his new TV and why he has his new TV:
"We bought one a couple of weeks ago. One reason was for me to review Blu-Ray discs for Audio/Video Revolution; they arranged for me to get a Blu-Ray player. The technicians who set all this up were here TEN HOURS. They didn't have a Blu-Ray disc nor did I, but got some a day or two later. The Blu-Ray player won't play them--or at least that's what I thought was going on. Now the guy in charge of installing this stuff claims that the TV itself won't play 1080. (I don't really know what that means, or why sometimes it's followed with i and sometimes with p.) "
Is this the man you want doing comparative reviews of the latest high definition video software?
Let's suppose that I hadn't even told you about our encounter on the Sinister Cinema board. Forget that and just read the post above by Bill himself. He doesn't know what "1080" mean and doesn't even know that "i" and "p" stand for interlaced and progressive.
Anyway, Bill is now the High-Def point man for Audio/Video Revolution! Keep that in mind the next time you see one of his reviews.
