Hello,
I have a Briggs 3.5 HP Horizontal engine. It seems to run fine if the throttle is at the lowest setting, but if you give it a little more gas it stalls.
If i set the throttle to a reasonably high position and then spray starting fluid into carburetor, it runs great for about 3 seconds, then it runs out of fluid and stops. so the problem seems to be that the gasoline isn't getting up into the carb. the gas tank sit directly below the carburetor, theres a small tube that runs from the carburetor down into the tank, theres also another wider tube which goes into the tank, but doesn't go low enough to make contact with the fluid.

I've taken the carburetor off and soaked it in diesel for several hours and blown it out with an air compressor, but still does the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Tom

Diesel? soak it in carb cleaner and blow it out, and try a new gasket/diapragm kit.
Those tubes are the fuel pickups, make sure they are clean at the mesh, and the tank is clean.

pull the jet out and take the metal from a bread tie and push it through the holes. Like bugman said, use carb cleaner.

Ok, I put a new gasket between the carb and tank, cleaned it out with the twist tie and it started right up, running real good now. Thanks!

I've found this is yet another great use for Insulin Syringes as well :)
