First up, in an event at the Con, Warner officially announced the DVD release of Forbidden Planet on 11/14. There will be a Forbidden Planet: 50th Anniversary 2-Disc Special Edition (SRP $26.99) as well as a Forbidden Planet: Ultimate Collector's Edition (SRP $59.92). The 2-disc edition will feature anamorphic widescreen video (mastered from newly restored film elements) and newly-remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras on the 2-disc edition will include additional scenes and rare "lost" footage (known in select circles as “The Saucer Footage"), excerpts from The MGM Parade TV series, a pair of later programs that feature Robbie the Robot (the 1958 MGM feature film The Invisible Boy and the Robot Client episode of MGM's The Thin Man TV series), 3 documentaries on the making of the film (including TCM's original Watch the Skies!: Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us, and the all-new Amazing! Exploring the Far Reaches of Forbidden Planet and Robby the Robot: Engineering a Sci-Fi Icon), and a gallery of Sci-Fi film theatrical trailers. The Ultimate Collector's Edition will include the 2-disc SE DVD release in a tin case, along with a collectible Robby the Robot replica with moveable limbs, a reproduction lobby art card portfolio for Forbidden Planet and The Invisible Boy, and a Forbidden Planet original theatrical poster mail-in offer. There MAY be HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions of the release as well (we certainly hope so), but they're not yet announced.
Excellent news!!

Brent Gair 07-27-2006, 07:08 PM I was beginning to think that the FORBIDDEN PLANET SE was the oldest hoax on the internet! When did we first hear about...2002? They even had "artwork" posted.
This is one of those titles that may cause me to do some soul searching. Normally, I'd jump on it in a second. But, as mentioned, there will almost certainly be a high-def release. In fact, several months ago, I heard about a Forbidden Planet HD release in the fall so I assumed there would also be a standard DVD.
I am now at the point where I generally avoid buying something in SD if expect an HD version to follow shortly. That's not often a problem because most of my DVD purchases are older, more obscure, titles that aren't likely to see quick HD releases. But HD is a reality now. I can walk to three store with 15 minutes of my house and see HD DVD and BLu-ray players for sale. Even Wal Mart sells both HD DVD and Bu-ray discs. There exists a strong possibility that I may buy one system within the next year. So there are fewer and fewer titles that I consider "automatic buys" in the standard DVD format.
fluke 07-28-2006, 02:18 AM YIPPIE!!! Now to get a hold of one of those swell models of the C-57D that one company released a few years back....lets see...Bi polar models, nah....polar Bear models?...nope....pearced ear models? DANG! ;)
I have had TWO and sold them every time I wanted something more!
PhilipMarlowe 07-28-2006, 09:48 AM I'll be curious to see the Robby replica included in the deluxe set, I saw on one of the toy sites that X-plus has a 8" Robby and his car coming out soon.
Dave Hussey 07-28-2006, 10:22 AM They are on Hobby Link Japan, but not cheap! You can get Robbie with and without the car:

PhilipMarlowe 07-28-2006, 11:05 AM Those are actually pretty reasonable prices, the Japanese sellers on @bay are doing pre-orders for about 3X as much!
Zorro 07-28-2006, 11:09 AM Man, that Robbymobile is especially cool. If these things increase in value like the X-Plus Nautilus's did - then it would be worth buying several. Why do the Japanese get all the really cool stuff?
Old_McDonald 07-28-2006, 12:34 PM I wish someone would turn out some really nice diecast of the saucer shaped ships. If they were the size of dinner plates with working landing gear, I'd buy anything they made. Armour is doing a great job with their 1/48 scale aircraft.
I'd go for a J2 and Forbidden planet saucer. The model that Polar lights did was just too big for me.
Dave Hussey 07-28-2006, 01:15 PM What is the X-Plus Nautilus worth these days? I've been hoarding a MIB copy in my basement!

Old_McDonald 07-28-2006, 01:40 PM Whatever they are listed for on ebay is probably too much since they haven't sold.

Dave Hussey 07-29-2006, 10:40 AM Ha!

scotpens 07-29-2006, 12:39 PM They are on Hobby Link Japan, but not cheap! You can get Robbie with and without the car:
http://www.hlj.com/product/XPS00522In the photo with the car, why is Robby facing backwards? Is he telling a backseat driver to shut up?
Dave Hussey 07-29-2006, 01:36 PM My sister-in-law must be ridin' with him.

Robby's jeep isn't quite right, which I find surprising for the Japanese. Check out the full-size functioning one done by the guy that has the Robot Hut: www.robothut.robothut.com/rjpa.html (http://www.robothut.robothut.com/rjpa.html)
Can somebody explain to me why you can't cut-and-paste adresses into your postings? I can do it at every site I belong to except this one!
David.
scotpens 07-29-2006, 10:04 PM Don't know what problem you're having with copying and pasting URL’s — it always works for me.
The correct link is:

I see where I went wrong in the adress, thanks for the correction. I still can't paste in the reply box for some reason.
