View Full Version : Best type of stock motor
J-Dub Racing 07-26-2006, 04:49 PM I know this could get ugly, but what is the best stock motor for a Flat short carpet oval. Not worried so much about brand I dont think, more so Monster stock, C027, epic X. Any input would be great.
Thanks
Joel
17driver 07-26-2006, 05:26 PM epic-x or the co27.
jflack 07-26-2006, 05:54 PM All 3 will run if the Chassis setup is good! I like the Monster, mainly because I've tuned it longer than the other 2.
brian0525 07-26-2006, 07:17 PM co27 is a much stronger motor than the monster when tuned correctly for the track.
PUF19 07-26-2006, 07:25 PM CO27 is what you want!!!
Jesse Bean 07-26-2006, 08:26 PM i think that the best motor ever is the mabuchi 500. i wear out everybody with this one. giv it a try and ur sure to beat beach then. goodluck with that, S. Nelson
Racin'Jason 8 07-26-2006, 09:14 PM From experience....it depends on short track layout. Tight corners = Co27 to come off the turn. Large sweeping turns where the car is 'always turning' = EPIC for RPM's. Around here you're not fast unless an EPIC sounds like it's gonna come apart! 120' runline - keeping the car free and wound up is the key.
BigClay 07-27-2006, 11:48 PM Joel the fastest runs at Troad came from a Epic stock. If you would like to use a few stock motors to find out what you would like. I can leave my motors at the track so you find out what works best for you.
Harold R 07-28-2006, 12:40 AM Joel, I agree with Clay though I think that the new X stock will be even better... Until I get my hands on a X stock and figure it out I still perfer the Monster myself just because I have spent more time with it.
Either way like someone else had said if your car is free and you have the correct roll out it will be fast.
As long as it has a EA sticker on it you can't go wrong...
J-Dub Racing 07-28-2006, 09:47 AM Well thanks for the input guys. Now I have another question. Can someone give me a baseline to shoot for on the Fantom Dyno? I know what a good spec motor looks like, but I havent seen stock motor numbers in a long time.
Thanks,
BTW. Thanks for the offer BigClay, hope to see you on the 5th.

I would say as long as it spins free it is good....LOL, all my best runs came on motors around 63-66 watts, 20,000-22,000rpm's 880-930trq.
I have plenty of motors that are 70+ watts and 990+ trq, But they just do not run on the track.
co27 on my dyno 64 2000 95
smokey 07-29-2006, 02:56 PM has any one run the new x motor and what does it compare to?????????
rickster58 07-30-2006, 11:10 PM I'd like hear the answer to that question too. The ad boasts rpm's up to 30k. If it's true, there's gotta be a way to take advantage of it.
PUF19 07-31-2006, 09:18 AM I have run the X a few times, no real diff then the Monster...oh an NO where near 30k rpm, closer to 21-23k
Todd Putnam 07-31-2006, 12:18 PM The X-Stock yields a broader power band and increased RPM vs. the Monster Stock. The max power is very similar, slightly higher in most cases. The higher RPM is more noticeable in the mid range and top end, giving the motor a broader power band...meaning it continues to pull harder toward the middle and end of the straights.
The 30k claim by Trinity is probably based on 7 volts, for the On-Road/Off-Road applications. When I test on out Turbo Dynos at 7 volts, they come close to 30K max RPM vs. 27-28K for a monster.
Hope this helps...
MIDWESTRC 07-31-2006, 01:14 PM Epic X
CDW35 07-31-2006, 02:29 PM the co27 seems to be the way to go,
t_dreiling 07-31-2006, 03:23 PM what temp would you want to keep the motor (i use a co27)? and where do you need check the temp? Thank you

Does this mean its as easier to gear than the roar legal epic from last year?
Jesse Bean 07-31-2006, 09:26 PM we just got a batch of x stocks and epics from ea this weekend and by the dyno sheets the epic still has about three thousand more rpms and around the same torque but the epic still had better wattage and amp pull which i like. as far as an actual run.... i tested one in practice last week and it seemed a little slow on the top end to me and only average on the acceleration out of the corner. then i switched back to my favorite for oval which i tested after the second heat and it pulled a 66.98 watt with 24,5?? for rpm and a .922 torque. awesome! ernie got some more EA motorsport epics and epic X stocks in so check'em out they had great numbers believe me. i already checked. laytr, J...
MIDWESTRC 07-31-2006, 10:47 PM The rollout at our track for a monster is around 2.80 With the epic x we are rolling out at 2.90 Just thought it might help.
smokey 08-01-2006, 07:20 PM thanks for the help .....i was wondering if the roll out was the same or a little more for the ea x
