View Full Version : WDRA Super Dirt Series Heads to Pine Bowl Aug. 5
johnqpublic 07-24-2006, 04:08 PM WDRA Super Dirt Series Makes Annual Trek to Pine Bowl on August 5th
On August 5th, the WDRA Super Dirt Series will make stop number 7 on the 2006 tour at Pine Bowl R/C Speedway, in Nassau, NY. Located in a shady pine forest, Pine Bowl with its natural under ground water supply, is known for generating some great side-by-side racing on its surface that stays tacky all day long. With just a 117’ run line, Pine Bowl may be small in size, but it is always big on action.
In 2005, Pete D’Agnolo picked up one of his three Modified series wins at Pine Bowl, and he’ll be looking to do the same in 2006. Another driver that will be looking to pick up a 3rd win of the year will be Jeff Hotaling who is the current Modified point leader. This could be a tall task in what will be his first visit to Pine Bowl, as Matt Olmsted, who conquered Pine Bowl in 2004 will not only be looking for the win, but also for the point lead, as he sits just 2 points out of the top spot. Lee Morris, Terry Schmitt and Billy Kimpton round out the current Modified top 5, and will be contenders for the win as well.
On the strength of 2 straight top 3 finishes in Pine Bowl WDRA competition, local star and series sponsor Todd Putnam will lead the Capital District Modified contingent into battle against the best drivers on the WDRA circuit.
Over in the Big Block division, defending series champ Dale Hartzell is the current point leader, and also the defending champion of the Pine Bowl event. He has to be a favorite coming into the Pine Bowl event. Dan Gill is just 6 points back in second, and will be another driver making his first laps at Pine Bowl. Lee Morris, Barry Wallace, and Jeff Hotaling round out the top 5 point men in the Big Block division.
Back in 2004, local hot shoe Chris Lorette successfully led the local hot shoes in taking 3 of the top 5 Big Block positions, in defense of their home turf over the WDRA traveling regulars. At the inaugural Pine Bowl WDRA event in 2003, western NY standout Dean Anderson was followed across the line by a pack of 4 of the Capital District drivers, including the immortal "Fast" Al Mostek, Jr.
In 2005 local Small Block drivers, Tom Fredette and Sam Leary swept the top 2 spots at Pine Bowl, and it appears that both of those drivers have now moved up to the Capital District Big Block Ranks. This year, point leader Sean "Meatball" Leonard will try to extend his lead over Jan Poyneer in the standings. Youngster Larry Morris sits 3rd in the points followed by "Jungle" Johnny Renshaw and EJ French.
Also joining the WDRA point racers for the second straight race will be the popular Coupe class. This class is growing by leaps and bounds at both Pine Bowl and the Little O. Maybe some of those western NY coupes will join in on the fun.
Pine Bowl R/C Speedway will open at 8:00 am and the first heat will roll off at noon. The format will be 2 rounds of 4 minute qualifying heats followed by bump-up mains. All mains will be 75 laps. Stay tuned right here or at dirtoval.com and the WDRA website for the latest information.
johnqpublic 07-24-2006, 04:11 PM On a side note, I will have the remainder of the WDRA Summernats shirts for sale. As of now I have 1 Medium and about 10 or 12 XLarges.

FASTALJR 07-25-2006, 06:01 PM Immortal??? I was thinking more GOD-LIKE !!!! LOL! If you want Bulldog, I can make an appearance for an autograph session???? Let me know!
johnqpublic 07-25-2006, 07:25 PM Suprised that no one else picked up on that!
Al, you are immortal, but not for the reasons that you think you are!
Razoo 07-26-2006, 08:31 PM Al- Wouldn't it be easier just to make up some vinyl stickers of your autograph? Maybe Big Mike would be interested in some!! :freak:  :p
FASTALJR 07-27-2006, 08:23 AM *DELETED*
NASCR3 07-27-2006, 11:26 AM Al- Wouldn't it be easier just to make up some vinyl stickers of your autograph? Maybe Big Mike would be interested in some!! :freak:  :p
W:freak:W!!! LMAO. Nice one Rich.
marzzz23 07-27-2006, 05:31 PM what kind of car and equipment do you need for your coupe class? i am attending the wdra event and may entertain the idea of running? thx
dave marsh
Rcracer7 07-27-2006, 10:58 PM What we've been running for the coupe class is any tub, center battery chassis with 3300 max batteries. But if you only have bigger batteries it's no big deal. It's all for fun anyway. The main rule is just no Terminator or Custom Works chassis.

marzzz23 07-27-2006, 11:18 PM i have a car i could use, just no old car body, but i might look around a couple local hobby shops, what if i can find an old gremlin body? can i use that?...........what tire compounds work at the pine bowl??? thx
dave m.
KirtC 07-28-2006, 07:13 AM The Gremlin body will be fine, as you are correct in that its hard to find the older bodies. The 41 Willys from Parma is the easiest to find.
Tires a tough question as we don't race hear often enough, but most of us have pinks all the way around and there fine for a day race; at night they get tight as the track just continues to get more bite in it.
Look forward to seeing Dave............At The Track

Big_Mike 07-28-2006, 12:15 PM little al,WITH THE BIG MOUTH.......WHAT ARE YOU SAYING THAT I'AM A CHARITY CASE!!!!!! IF YOUR WORK WAS WORTH THE PRICE YOUR TRYING TO GET. IT WOULDN'T BE CALLED CHARITY IN YOUR little mind. LET'S JUST FACE REALLITY FOR A MINUTE YOUR WORKS NOT THAT GOOD FOR THE PRICE!!!! FOR ANYONE OUT THERE THAT NEEDS STICKERS. IF YOU CALL THIS little boy!! BE PERPARED TO PAY TOP DOLLAR FOR LOW QUILITY WORK!!!! THERES OTHER GUYS AROUND THIS AREA THAT DO GOOD WORK AT REALIST PRICES.
SO ANYWAY bulldog, I'AM SORRY I MEAN PUPPY DOG SHOW UP FOR A AUTOGRAPH SESSION!!!!! I'AM LETTING YOU KNOW!!
I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!
I'AM SORRY TO ALL OF YOU THAT THIS HAS SPILLED OVER TO THIS THREAD!!!!
OPPS!!!!!! THANKS JET
The Jet 07-28-2006, 03:06 PM CHERITY
Wasn't she married to Sonny??? :jest:
The Jet 07-29-2006, 01:32 AM I just picked up a bunch of vinyl from Al, I really like it, and it didn't cost me an arm and leg. Looks like good quality to me. .
See ya at the Pine Bowl.
Later, Bret
Big_Mike 07-29-2006, 07:58 AM  He must have took my advice and came up with some more REALISTIC PRICES for his QUILITY OF WORK!!! His stuff is useable but what he charged me for what I got the price didn't come close to the QUILITY OF HIS WORK. I've been building and custom painting bodies for 20 plus years and I've bought alot of stickers in that time and I never got SCREWED as bad as I did from little boy al.. But Jet if your happy with what you got for the price good for you. Like I told him at my house I would have given him all of my business if the price matched the quility. His plans are to buy better equipment in the future but until then his prices are wayyyyyyyy to high for me.
marzzz23 07-29-2006, 11:40 PM ok i got a pic of the car i want to use for the classic class.......can i use the body in the pic below? or is it not legal, its 15 yrs old atleast. thx

Not my call, but my personal opinion is that that body would give you a huge advantage over the coupes....It does look very cool though!
marzzz23 07-30-2006, 11:42 AM i have a coupe to paint, i was just curious cause it looks so cool.......so who's call i sit? anyone?
disruptor10 07-30-2006, 02:25 PM Thanks paul , see ya soon .................Big D
Rcracer7 07-30-2006, 04:04 PM Dave
I guess I'm qualified enough to decide. I'd say if you have a Coupe, run the coupe because that's what the real goal of the class is. But we're not about to turn anyone away if they absolutely can't find a coupe body to run.
Eric
KirtC 07-30-2006, 07:18 PM Eric is on the right track and I'll add that your ride would also fit in with our Sportsman Class, as most of those guys are running center battery, rear motor, tub style chassis.
Any way, as Eric said, bring it and we'll find a way to get you in the show
See Ya...........In 6 Days,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, At The Pine Bowl

marzzz23 07-30-2006, 08:02 PM hey guys thanx for the response, i just thought the body looked really cool, time to slap some paint on the coupe body!!!!!!! no sportsman for me, i have my pro car to run big block.
KirtC 07-31-2006, 10:17 AM Hey Dave, the body definitely looks Coooooooooooooooool don't get us wrong. We've got another racer that has a Mudbus that he's been trying to finish up, getting a class of those together would also be neat.
On another subject, I want to thank the work crew that build the steps up to drivers stand this past weekend; it was a great treat to come home to. Thanks Tom and others. It also looks like you guys spent your time on the steps instead of practicing. I'm guessing the water level in the pool being up 1+" might indicate Mother Nature had something to do with that.
See Ya...............At The Pine Bowl

KirtC 08-02-2006, 10:10 PM A minor word of caution on the direction site Eric has above 2 posts:
When coming from the west, exit at NYS Thruway #24 and continue east on I-90 to Exit 11E. The written web site directions make it sound as if you would go north on I-87 which not the correct way !!!!
Don't hestitate to call my cell if you're not sure if you're heading the correct way or just running a little late 518-727-3456
See Ya...................... At The Track
Kirt
tfelog 08-03-2006, 04:45 PM I noticed on the web page with the rules that it says you need a front bumper. Is that rule enforced? Just wondering.
KirtC 08-03-2006, 10:26 PM Interesting, I don't remember that one, but some of those are really old; a few years back we found a left-over rule from the late 70s that your body had to be painted Red!!
Can you immagine a 6 red car race?
Anyway, no front bumper is required
See Ya,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, At The Pine Bowl

balistic 08-06-2006, 09:38 AM Hats off to Kirt C great show that was smooth as can be. thanks again kirt. Bob H
KirtC 08-06-2006, 12:30 PM Great time, fantastic weather, just missed a few of the traveling "regulars" but none the less; met a new group of long haulers that where just as great.
Thanks to all the out of towners for coming
Thanks to all the locals, who showed in record numbers, for participating
Thanks to Wally for his time and effort to pull the WDRA together
Thanks to all who spent the prettiest day this summer with us
Thanks for all you preparation and help with set-up and marshalling
Thanks for the great clean-up; you guys (and gals) did a wonderful job picking everything up!!!
I'm still disappointed in the track condition, yes I know the groove came in, but not quite wide enough to allow for a driver to move up a groove and let someone by and not with the bite the Pine Bowl is capable of and has shown us in the past. I promise those inside plastic rails will not be there next year (and there replacement will be better!!) as I know they where the demise which lead to the utter disappointment for some of the drivers.
I had a blast, and if you asked for a race re-cap I actually couldn't as the day is just a blur in my mind cluttered with the flurry of activity that comes with running the show at a temporary facility. Next year, valet parking LOL.
Congrats to all the winners and there are no losers, just bad finishes:
EDM Sportsman - A MAIN -- Ed Biittig (in a B-3 Bulldog back-up car)
EDM Sportsman - B MAIN -- Fenchie
EDM Sportsman - C MAIN -- Nick Dean

EDM Pro - B MAIN -- Todd Putnam
EDM Pro - C MAIN -- Dave Marsh
EDM Pro - D MAIN -- Lee Morris

Kirt

marzzz23 08-07-2006, 03:36 PM I had a blast up there in the woods too! I thought the track was pretty good considering it hasnt been used in a year.I wish we had a place like that to run occasionally down here in Pa. Kirt and Wally did a great job! I especially loved running the 75 lap mains, winning the c was awesome and running another 75 was great. It was nice meeting everyone and I can't wait to get up there again.
