View Full Version : B&S 6.0hp - How do I clean the fuel system?

My lawn mower recent sputtered to a stop.

If I prime it, it starts, then immediately shuts down. I suspected it
might have some bad gas in it (although I had been using it most of
the summer so far without problems), so I filled what was left of the
tank with hi-test (94 octane), hoping to mix with whatever bad was
there up to at least some degree that would get this thing chugging.

Anyway, everything I read, says clean the fuel system.

I don't have a clue how to go about doing this (but want to try).
Aside from emptying the tank (which BTW what is the easiest way
to do that?) What else is there that is easy to check/do?

I'm having some difficulty getting the owners manual off the B&S site,
I can't seem to find the one that is my engine...still looking however.

Any other thoughts?

sounds to me like you need a new diaphragm...........stale fuel will ruin them VERY quickly

6hp briggs, that is since its on a mower (being a vertical shaft) has no diapragm. Has a float type carb.
