How do you know when your front springs are too soft

are you refering to when they are wore out or just to soft for the application or track?

spring rates are chozen depending on tire compound and how much bite the track has.. also banking size of the turns ect.. best thing to do is test..

when your car is loose, no matter what you do to try and correct it.

and with time, a harder spring will get softer.

the two post above pretty much have covered that question. Make sure your chassis is not bottoming out as well. And use the above mentioned factors to find what makes your car tick.

The determination of a heavy or lighter spring can be viewed from how you want your weight transfered as well. that is why often times you will see a heavy left front spring on a flat track cars (heavier than right front) is to get the weight back to the right rear quicker to help rotation. the speed at which it transfers can also be determined in which Shur Lube is used. How you dampen a spring can be a very huge part of its effectiveness in its bound and rebound.
