I have a briggs and stratton 8hp engine.

I was wondering why the carb is attached to the valve cover, does it burn the excess oil off in the carb if it is tipped to its side, or is it meant for something else.

(Just curious) :thumbsup: .

I'm no expert but I would guess that is for emissions reasons.
If you do tip it on its side oil will flow into the breather and get sucked into the carb and yes you will burn oil. Not a big deal except usually you end up trashing the air filter and restrict air flow to the engine and get poor performance.

It lets internal crankcase pressure out, but no oil..... sure if put on one side it will leak oil and burn for a bit. It just makes the engine burn the very small amount of oil that will get by.
