... and I REALLY like these things. (Thanks mamilligan!) The chassis seems MUCH better than the last round of PM/RC2 cars. As others have noted, it's made of what seems to be different stuff... I think this plastic looks better in addition to being more rigid. It's got a duller finish and it seems less toy-like.
I got a set of 6 cars, and 4 of the 6 ran very well right out of the box--no lubrication, original tires, all I did was untwist the ties. The 5th needed a few drops of oil and it was fine, while the 6th needs some work. It gets around the track okay, but it makes a funny squealing sound going around right turns. (??? Go figure.) I took it apart and cleaned the comm and put it back together, no change. The arm looks a little different from previous releases somehow. The crown gear appears to be much better made than previous releases. I should have checked the pinion too... I know on older cars, some were out-of round...
And once they've all been treated to a few drops of oil, these things are ROCKETS. They seem more consistent than the PM/RC2 cars in that respect. And they really seem to handle better too. What AfxToo has pointed out about the big fronts--that they provide added weight that these cars need--is absolutely true. I usually set these guys up on skinny little Tjet tires and rims and Dremel the screwposts to get them lowered way down, but I'm hesitant to do that with these--they run too good the way they are, 4x4 stance and all...
By the way, for those wondering why they did another red Corvette convertible, this one is actually orange. Still a little too close to the last release, but it's not exactly the same. Other than that, my only complaint about the bodies is the blower on the purple '62... Jeez I hate those things sticking out the hood.
Overall I'm VERY happy with these and I can't wait for future releases with new/repop bodies...
