Hello all,

I’ve got a couple of spare off-road buggies lying around and I wanted to build an on-road basher. Basically, I’m going to turn the rear end around 180 degrees then switch sides for the arms, wheel carriers, etc to get the angels close.

I’m curious about my motor. It’s a budget modified (Trinity Onyx 14t double). I’ll be pushing it with an ok Sport ESC (Tekin Command 10). To run the motor backwards, what happens if I just flip the connector so + is – and – is +? Then I advance the timing in the direction of what used to be retarding timing. Oh, and I flip the diode around too.

So what do you think?

Also, can you install a power capacitor on budget ESCs? Where would it go? How about bridging battery in to motor out like real ESCs?

Thx,

whell fossy so far you are correct about the motor. you need to swich the polarity to get it to spin the other way. then since it will now have retarted timing you need to advance the timing in the other direction to get it to fire correctly. 0 is a good starting point so that it can spin eaither direction and the motor wont car. but running it negative while it is running it backwards will be just like running it positive timing while its spining the corect way. then you asked if you could mount a power cap on your esc. the answer to that is yes. the power cap is solderd on the motor positive and the motor negative. and realy the only thing that the power cap does is make the motor a little more responsive, linear, and efficent because it is getting rid of the ripple effect that the esc produces. now I said yes rather quickly some escs may have a cap inside them already or may not like it if you run a cap in conjuction with them. now I dont know what you mean when you say "How about bridging battery in to motor out like real ESCs?"

HOPE THIS HELPS

Not sure what you are using for a tranny, but if it's an Associated Stealth then you can just put it together with the top shaft coming out the other side. Then you can run the motor with normal polarity. I've done that on many on-road buggies.
