View Full Version : Spec Racing @ The Oval Masters
Allan A 07-07-2006, 09:50 PM We have had several questions about running spec class at the OVAL MASTERS race this year.
1 truck or car body, or both?
2 spec tire or open tires ?
3 also is this a race you are interested in running?
SEE POST # 14
alexaj46 07-07-2006, 10:30 PM my vote would be car bodies and spec tires
Larry B 07-08-2006, 12:32 AM Stock car body and open tires. Then you could run more than one class with the same car(just different bat's and motor set-up for stock). But realy Allen you and Mike should make the decision. You could never make all the racers happy with any decision. If you want to race you run the rules. Things you may to think about are: will you have to stock the spec tires and how many do you want to have left over if you do not run spec tires now or later, would you want someone running stock and spec.
Rocketman 07-08-2006, 12:25 PM my vote would be for stockcar body open tires.
jmcdo28 07-08-2006, 12:47 PM i think you should run arcor rules, truck bodies and open foam tires.
alexaj46 07-09-2006, 10:09 AM I just feel we should bring spec back to its roots. spec batt's,motor, tires. if not, then it's not a spec class....
jmcdo28 07-09-2006, 11:03 AM arcor changed the spec tire rule to open for foams
NCFRC 07-09-2006, 11:28 AM Your really opening a can of worms here ---------------
If you ask the racer , more than likely they'll come up with rules they like , not whats best for the division !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make your spec rules firm but basic .
I agree with spec motors , tires , battterys , ect
Spec racing is not any tire , stk motor , 3800 batterys , thats foolish !!!!!!!!!
Forget what any Organization has adopted for rules , make you own and stay with it.
Spec racing is a long time deal , it'll be gone tomorrow if the guys with 3800's and stk motors are allowed to run.
alexaj46 07-09-2006, 05:27 PM I agree!!!
KRITER 07-09-2006, 07:57 PM I will go with what ever the track wants, but I run ARCOR rules at my home track here in Va. Truck bodies and open tires that's my 2 cents. Thanks for letting me have a vote. KRITER
jflack 07-10-2006, 12:03 AM 4 cell STOCK class- ROAR Rules is the only SPEC class needed!
Mike Russell 07-10-2006, 08:46 AM Alan and I will talk about this today.
J-Dub Racing 07-10-2006, 09:20 AM I say use the ARCOR rules. It is the only sanctioned set that I know of for that type of class. Trust me with this question you can get about 150 answers. The truth is what ever you decide you cant make everyone happy. Hope to see you at the race, with my ARCOR spec truck, so I dont have to make any changes!
Allan A 07-10-2006, 05:57 PM Mike and I have decided on these rules for spec class at the OVAL MASTERS.
1. truck bodies
2. 1600 spec battery
3. spec motor
4. open tire (spec or any other foam tire)
We appreciate your input and look foward to seeing everyone at the race.
thanks
Allan A
Larry B 07-10-2006, 06:08 PM Allen, will the motor brush rule be the R or F brush serations only no cutting?
Mike Russell 07-10-2006, 08:24 PM F Brush serations only
NCFRC 07-10-2006, 08:25 PM Does the 1600 spec pack have to be end to end ?
I have an original GP-1600 pack , side by side , that tests out at
1850 mah on the discharge side,,, The way to fly, any interest ?
R.S.
Larry B 07-10-2006, 08:34 PM NCFRC, I have never seen a trinity spec pack in a side-by-side form, only in the stick pack form. It it a trinity? It would be nice to get them side-by-side to fit the battery tray better(but that could lead to people tampering with them).
NCFRC 07-11-2006, 06:31 PM Its been converted to side by side but still has the original GP- spec labels on each cell.
Most Spec packs will be assembled this way in the future for longer life and better cell equalization, tampering is more of a competitor complaint than reality of a legitimate problem, if its a good pack then its a good pack.
Rickity Racer 07-12-2006, 07:42 AM Mike and Allan: Good choice for the Spec rules. Stick with what's working.
NCFRC 07-12-2006, 08:35 AM The original Gp-1600 cells are in high demand right now !!!
Search your LHS for some kicking around.
J-Dub Racing 07-12-2006, 09:26 AM I ran great with the new (red cells) ones the other day. If you charge them correctly they seem to do as good as the older ones(yellow cells). But you need to run the same pack all day. And they like to stay warm.
Allan A 08-06-2006, 06:39 PM For those spec racers who have been running car bodies not truck we have a special for you. I have about 20 truck bodies Toyota, Ford, Chevy. I will sell for 14.00 each.
look foward to seeing you at the track.
Larry B 08-06-2006, 09:49 PM Allan, are the bodies Mcalister's. If so Steve(Kriter)and I may want some. I will talk to him tomarrow.
Allan A 08-07-2006, 01:46 PM Larry
