View Full Version : 19 Turn K&N R/C Speedway PUF19 07-04-2006, 02:01 PM Wich 19 turn motor should we run this winter? PUF19 07-04-2006, 09:46 PM back up top.. PUF19 07-05-2006, 10:22 AM bump up to top The Jet 07-05-2006, 06:54 PM Why restrict it to one single motor??? Part of the 19 turn attraction is options, I know you'll say "I don't want to have to but all kinds of different motors to be able to compete" basically. If that IS the case, then why not allow only 1 tire combo, 1 type of shock/oil combo, 1 set of springs, 1 body??? Hell, stock doesn't even do that. 19 turn should be used as a stepping stone to mod, and having tuning options (similar to mod) just adds to the fun  . Again, stock doesn't limit you to one specific motor, why do you want to do that to 19 turn??? DStevens77 07-05-2006, 07:21 PM To eliminate the BS. Mayhem 07-05-2006, 08:07 PM I vote for the ultrabird. Cheap, easily available to all, cheaper for the shop owner to stock. We,ve given the open 19T over two years to develop, its clearly not working. There is hardly ever a weekly 19 T class at tracks anymore. 2nd, there are too many basement winders cooking up all kinds of contraptions, most local tech people arent up to date on whats out there and whats legal even if they did tech. Motors being run weekly that are not approved at every track etc. The stock class is a success, lets imitate that using 19T motors and try to let the class grow. The ultra's seem to make good consistant power at a good price and drivers are finding out that they are going nearly as fast if not faster with them. Shop owners wont have to keep the motor of the week in the case ,(and get stuck with last weeks ) that no one will buy. An even playing field, good price, and easy accessability will help the class grow. One thing I can guarantee is I'll start running the 19T class if we switch to ultra birds. Modified is always available to those who want to run open class. PUF19 07-05-2006, 10:33 PM So I see it 7 to 3 so far, only counting the guys that actully race @ K&N Cat24 07-06-2006, 12:04 AM edited Tommygun43 07-06-2006, 12:15 AM option 3 Brushless ovalrc 07-06-2006, 08:19 AM I don't know why we don't stay with what we have. Maybe it'll take a little time to get comfortable with a timed motor, but you'll be better off in the long run, knowlege wise. RC5150 07-06-2006, 09:22 AM edited rickster58 07-06-2006, 09:40 AM How does the performance of the two "polled" motors compare? RC5150 07-06-2006, 09:51 AM edited rickster58 07-06-2006, 10:43 AM whats the street co$t of a komodo THE BAT 07-06-2006, 10:59 AM whats the street co$t of a komodo I hear you can get them for 10 bucks down in the city.:D THE BAT 07-06-2006, 11:21 AM I would rather run any motor. But if it means more racers i would run the ultrabird.I also think the ultrabird would take out enough of the variables that people would start running 19t again because you wouldn't worry about what motor the guy next to you is running and would be able to concentrate more on chassis. The komoto would be more for a spec 19t class and it also wont help you to run 19 anywhere else. bud3738 07-06-2006, 01:42 PM Bat.....you have a PM ovalrc 07-06-2006, 01:58 PM I think Bat brought up a good point, K&N is always looking for racers from other tracks to support it's bigger races, if we go to the fixed timing motor it'll hurt racers from outside coming in. Most tracks made the commitment to run ROAR or ARCOR rules, so that's what racers have for equipment. Being a one off will only hurt attendance. Many of us from K&N travel to other tracks through out the year, to my knowledge not one of the those track runs a fixed timing 19 turn class. Lets not shoot ourselves in the foot here. Ted C 07-06-2006, 03:59 PM I have listened to the talk about all the tracks that use the ultrabird now can some one list those tracks that are activly running a class with them. What is the class, do you need to buy your race motor from that track when you get there, and how many people do you think you are going to see from those tracks? It's funny I never saw those tracks open it up for discussion over what motor should be used. This way I could have said please don,t so I can use my motors I have now. When I was one of the first people to run 4 cell 19T with trucks we used a fixed time 19T and that is when the class really boomed most people liked it until the big "T" put a batch of bad motors out there. We switched to adj. timed 19's and from that time those that started in the class slowly dropped out because the couldn't get a good handle on motor timing and a lot dropped back to stock. I would go to a 19T fixed time class again and give it a whirl. You are taking the timing lessons out of it for mod (but talk about a dead class) but you will make it easier for new people to get into the class without feeling to over there head. We have tried timed motors for 3 or more years and the interest has dwindled. No one is going to travel a long distance to race a KN in 19 unless we get the local numbers up first. Just my $0.05 THE BAT 07-06-2006, 05:00 PM True but i don't get what the problem is with adjustable timing for most guys.I ran 36 degrees with basically only 2 different pinion sizes for 3 years and won the majority of the 19t races because of my chassis setup.I haven't run that much 19t lately if at all and my chassis is way off and it shows.Mr Bombard has been working on nothing but his 19t chassis week in and week out and that's why he's winning it's not a magic gear or timing combination he's running the same gear and timing as i and everyone else runs.I'll run fixed timing without a problem if thats going to help i just don't see how.The guys that work on there setup will still win and the rest will still struggle.:dude:  JBRCells 07-06-2006, 10:12 PM Darnit Bat he told me it was the batteries! LOL ovalrc 07-06-2006, 10:23 PM When will the Komodo motors be available at the track? Bring them on, so we can race. Justin, now you've gone and done it, I thought that was our secret. LOL The Captain 07-06-2006, 10:35 PM I second the bat. I haven't been doing much racing lately. I was a half a lap off of the bat until I stopped racing. I was always working on the chassis. Now after not racing, I went back and know I'm a lap and a half off the pace. The car is a P.O.S. So I don't care what motor you are going to run. Adjustable or fixed it doesn't make a difference. It's all in the chassis setup. dancingd 07-06-2006, 10:38 PM Captain, how are things going with the boys and the carts????? scott law 07-06-2006, 10:39 PM How about a 7 turn spec class? :p What ever the motor is for this winter will make no difference. Those who continue spending countless hours working on their chassis should and will continue to win at K/N. Bill and Bat have set the standard for 19t and are willing to help anyone who is willing to listen the K/N 101 set-up. If fixed timing is being considered why haven't other 19t motors by Atlas or Checkpoint been tested? SL mjmeer17 07-06-2006, 10:44 PM Ted, i know i dont race at k/n as often as i would like, but at marshalls we switched to the ultra birds motors in the winter season, our 19t motor rule or lack of, before this was getting out of hand. all the racers got together with Bill and made a choice to switch to the ultra birds motors( Bill had final say). you dont need to buy the motor at the track. and i can say since then the racing hasnt been closer. The Captain 07-06-2006, 10:52 PM Captain, how are things going with the boys and the carts????? Everything is going good dennis. All three kid are running now got me hands full. jonnycash 07-07-2006, 12:02 AM I hear you can get them for 10 bucks down in the city.:D 2 for $15 if you talk to the right guy. jbm38 07-07-2006, 12:30 AM Wich 19 turn motor should we run this winter? I haven't voted on this since I haven't run at K&N yet. But I'm curious if you have a motor builder as a track supporter and as a sponsor of sorts for your personal racing effort, then why not have an ARCOR based motor as a choice to vote on? Afterall there are a lot of people that I'm sure would much rather talk about what there motor builders MOTOR did rather then just there brushes. Which just about every motor builder uses the same brushes anyway just different names and part numbers. Well that just my $2.00, not $.02 since inflation and the price of everything is going up so we must as you know up the value of everything else :) Have fun no matter what choice you make and take care. Dale 07-07-2006, 01:07 AM I agree with MJmeer , at marshalls we run the ultrabirds (with variable timing) and the class is doing very well. Stock is pretty much dead here and last saturday we had 12 19 turn cars. the racing is very equal with these motors whether you run 36 or 24 degrees of timing. Our outside track is very fast this year and the motors hold up as well . Like the bat and others have said the key is definetly set up , but if you know your motor is close to the next guys you can concentrate on chassis and everyone is better off! I hope you all make the switch as we have and bring your numbers back up!! I wish your track was an hour closer as myself and a few others would be regulars. PUF19 07-07-2006, 10:08 AM to the top please Cat24 07-09-2006, 05:41 AM Looks like it hit bottom.... bojo 07-09-2006, 10:11 AM I have a Komodo dragon that would make every thing the same no adjustable timming. The Jet 07-10-2006, 12:25 PM True but i don't get what the problem is with adjustable timing for most guys.I ran 36 degrees with basically only 2 different pinion sizes for 3 years and won the majority of the 19t races because of my chassis setup.I haven't run that much 19t lately if at all and my chassis is way off and it shows.Mr Bombard has been working on nothing but his 19t chassis week in and week out and that's why he's winning it's not a magic gear or timing combination he's running the same gear and timing as i and everyone else runs.I'll run fixed timing without a problem if thats going to help i just don't see how.The guys that work on there setup will still win and the rest will still struggle.:dude:  Mark, your exactly right...,Chassis!!! 19 turn is faster, faster means you need to figure out the chassis, but soooo many people believe it's somebodys motor config. making them fast, that they just quit and go back to the simplier form of racing  . But too the point, having everyone on the same page is necessary. Lots of clubs run the Ultrabird (including Snowbirds) and it seems like nobody really dislikes them, so it should be the obvious choice at this point. Later, Bret PS. I will race K/N, that's why my .02 is here ;) rickster58 07-12-2006, 09:50 AM So whats the official K&N word from the management... Chad uh-hemm! What are we doing. It would be nice to know soon so that we can start practing with whatever motor we are going to use. Mr.K&N 07-12-2006, 01:44 PM Rick- Ill have the answer Sunday.... I wasent polling people... Chad rickster58 07-12-2006, 02:51 PM Chad, I thought for sure we'd see you last night. Was a good time. Fred was making the donuts ... err trophies.
