View Full Version : Movies They Really Shouldn't Remake Zorro 06-29-2006, 09:02 PM http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thewickerman/ John P 06-30-2006, 08:08 AM Yeah, I heard. I'm ... there are just no words. I bet it's gonna be an action-aventure format with lots of shooting. And no folk songs whatsoever. Talk about a perfect film, done just right the first time. Zorro 06-30-2006, 12:37 PM A great part of the original's charm is it's relative lack of slickness and the authenticity of it's location (and it's music). Besides that, Cage's character in the new version doesn't appear to be the least bit religious. Sergeant Howie's unwaivering faith is what drives the whole plot (and heart) of the original. He is literally a "fool" for Christ. Take that away and you've got nothing. Brent Gair 06-30-2006, 01:58 PM I might add that I think this is the kind of movie that requires a relative unknown in the starring role. Personally, I find that name actors just don't work well in thrillers. I could never enjoy THE SHINING because I couldn't get past the idea that "Hey, Jack Nicholson is in a horror movie..." PhilipMarlowe 06-30-2006, 02:02 PM The only reason this might not totally suck is Neil LaBute, but I agree it sure looks like another bad remake idea. John P 06-30-2006, 03:10 PM Can you even BELIEVE a remote island with an archaic religion in 2006? Zorro 06-30-2006, 03:22 PM Can you even BELIEVE a remote island with an archaic religion in 2006? Nope. scotpens 06-30-2006, 04:33 PM Nope.Oh, I don't know about that. When Shirley Jackson's famous short story "The Lottery" (which The Wicker Man closely resembles) was first published in 1948, many people wondered if Jackson had based the story on true events that had happened in a real town. Of course, that was almost sixty years ago, but you never know what goes on in some of these isolated communities. . . (cue "Dueling Banjos"). . . Zorro 06-30-2006, 04:48 PM Oh, I don't know about that. When Shirley Jackson's famous short story "The Lottery" (which The Wicker Man closely resembles) was first published in 1948, many people wondered if Jackson had based the story on true events that had happened in a real town. Of course, that was almost sixty years ago, but you never know what goes on in some of these isolated communities. . . (cue "Dueling Banjos"). . . Well, bein' from the South and all, things are relative. Down here, even the Episcopalians are snake handlers! John P 07-01-2006, 09:52 AM Well, bein' from the South and all, things are relative. I was under the impression that everyone in the south WERE relatives! :D ClubTepes 07-01-2006, 02:10 PM Movies they shouldn't remake: Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. The Goonies. scotpens 07-01-2006, 02:53 PM Don't you mean "Movies that shouldn't have been made in the first place"? El Gato 07-01-2006, 04:09 PM Rocky, whatever number they're on EvilWays 07-02-2006, 11:07 AM Don't you mean "Movies that shouldn't have been made in the first place"? In that case... Star Trek 5, anyone? :D I'd also throw in anything done by Uwe Boell (sp?). I was ecstatic when Silent Hill was yanked away from him, and Metal Gear head-honcho Hideo Kojima even made the off-hand remark that Uwe will NOT be directing the proposed Metal Gear Solid movie. big-dog 07-03-2006, 04:27 AM Logan's Run, yeah the film was really different from the book, and the proposed remake is supposedly close to the book, but I'm not sure the book would make a good film. Logan and the other Sandmen running around with 6 shooters. Having the oldest person 20 (you off it on your 21st birthday) might limit market appeal. While the book's short it's also real sketchy, focussing on events, almost devoid of detail. To make a realistically lengthed film you'd have to cut a load out. John P 07-03-2006, 09:02 AM 20 ain't old in Hollywood! The teen audience and youth appeal is the goal! Although the 20-year-old characters would be played by people aged 25 thru 35. :) big-dog 07-04-2006, 05:33 AM There is also the hopelessly PC angle to Hollywood. How would they deal with turning adult at 14? A 20 year old Logan gettin' down and dirty with a 14 year old? Hey, they wanna keep it true to the book. gruffydd 07-05-2006, 04:40 PM Hollywood and the multyiplex distribution system bite so bad I could puke. It's the end of the world.....yup, it's the end of the world. (Drunken Irushman in the diner in Hitchcock's "The Birds".) Oh, and BTW, don't remake "The Birds". PhilipMarlowe 07-05-2006, 06:47 PM Hollywood and the multyiplex distribution system bite so bad I could puke. It's the end of the world.....yup, it's the end of the world. (Drunken Irushman in the diner in Hitchcock's "The Birds".) Oh, and BTW, don't remake "The Birds". Already in the works. beck 07-06-2006, 10:34 AM AAARRGGHHH !!! hb portland182 07-06-2006, 12:30 PM Can you even BELIEVE a remote island with an archaic religion in 2006? Great Britain... Jim John P 07-06-2006, 10:36 PM Just saw a trailer for Miami Vice. At least Mann is making it. Looks like it'll probably be good. But to me Crockett and Tubbs existed in the 80s, and are probably retired cops now - Sonny living on a sailboat in Bermuda, Tubbs back home in NYC. It'll be just plain wierd seeing them young and on the job in 2006. big-dog 07-07-2006, 08:28 AM Wonder if they'll use a real Ferrari? Or get McBurnie to make another fake. interesting how Ferrari NEVER went after Rowley Corvette for making essentially an identical Daytona Spyder kit. Course then the owner didn't mouth off about how much better their car is than the genuine thing and say Ferrari's are a heap. Atlantis 07-08-2006, 10:00 PM I was under the impression that everyone in the south WERE relatives! :D I resent that :hat: I saw the Mark Walberg PotA remake. That guy seriously needs to be slapped repeatedly with a large fish. Also, don't remake 2001 either. John P 07-09-2006, 09:37 AM I saw the Mark Walberg PotA remake. That guy seriously needs to be slapped repeatedly with a large fish. Agreed! You hold him down, I'll swing the fish. Zorro 07-09-2006, 12:07 PM I think Burton deserves the fish in the case of POTA. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
