think I can help with the roller skates... I beleive, way back in the 70's, my younger sister had a doll that the feet fit into those very roller skates... can't remember the doll name, but I know it was made by Mattel!

Welcome to the Internet. Thanks to this marvelous invention of Al Gore's (riiiiiiight), people are discovering all kinds of information about friends in other countries. Of course, culture clashes are just one of the road blocks on the information superhighway, so this post will hopefully help a mainly American message board understand a little about British currency.

Loosely translated from his original post- he got good prices. Think of a pound (the "£") as a dollar (it's worth between $1 and $2, as of 6/26 it was worth $1.819 USD). Each pound is divided into 100 pence (the "p"). Think of these as pennies that are worth closer to $.02 than $.01.

Or click the above link, which will explain everything better than I can, and make fewer mistakes.

I hope this helps!

Cool finds! The C111 made me say "ouch" - it looks like it was driven under a semi-trailer.

Your red Dodge truck looks to be the best of the first lot, right?

The Lotus is neat, too. Elites are always desirable. It's still one of my favorite cars. Colin Chapman was a visionary genius, and that car would still be advanced if introduced today. They're really hard to find in the US, though.

The blue Olds Omega ('80 I think) is a nice addition to any collection. Probably the best looking of the X-car sedans.
(The one I'm looking for is the Chevy Citation X-11 Club Coupe - a Chevrolet Division "exclusive" - I don't know if was made in diecast, but it must have been produced by someone.)

The Lesneys are a fine addition to any collection - congratulations!

What are the cars that are flanking the yellow Citroen wagon? The yellow hatchback and the gold sedan?

Thanks for your interesting pictures!!

If this is the body style you refer to, Yatming did one:

This one has some front end damage, and was converted to a junk car for my monster truck rally.

Yellow hatchback is a Matchbox Volkswagen Golf (Rabbit) with a roof rack that normally contains a pair of surfboards. The green sedan is a Ford Cortina, also by Matchbox.

Thanks for your answers, Swifty. That Rabbit looked to me like a Fiat Ritmo (Strada). There's a car I bet no one made in diecast! (I'll google for it when I'm done here. Edit - I found two.)

Sad to hear that your cute li'l Chevy club coupe wound up under a monster truck. Not all X-cars deserved that fate - just most of them!

Nice website - I like your wild pix and your commentary on the cars and the action...

A Fiat Ritmo was made by Norev in their Minijets series, and Majorette (the Norev one is better though, the Majorette one is sort of 'lumpy' in it's appearance :D) I expect both wouldn't be easy to find in the USA, the Norev one is hard to find in the UK, I got it off a French woman at a car boot sale a few years ago. Here are my Norev and Majorette ones:

Norev:

Majorette:

The Dodge truck is one of 2 good ones from the scrap lot, it is now destined to become a car transporter. I also managed to save the Ford truck cab, I fitted new tyres on it so it looks good now. I fabricated a new Pillar for the Mercury station wagon, and that will become a banger racer sooner or later :)

Hot Wheels made the Ritmo too. It was never available in the USA, however.

LOL! Fortunately, I have a couple of good versions of this car as well. The junk car was the only one I had a pre-existing picture for though.

Nice pix of the Ritmos, mookie - Thanx for posting them! I never would've imagined that they were produced.

As much as I love distinctive cars, and as much as I love and appreciate Fiats, the Ritmo/Strada was still a bit too "arty" for me at the time. I think it was one of the cars that helped shut down Fiat sales in the US.

One of my friends had a Brava (Mirafiori) that was quite attractive and fun to drive; it gave Fiat a good name in my experience.

I was very sad to see them leave the US - I still like to read about Barchettas and Puntos, etc. in the Euro car mags.

(I would still probably buy a diecast of the Ritmo if I ever found one, because they were so odd.)

I'm glad that you made good use of your scrap finds - I, too, see the treasure in other folks' trash - and I'm enjoying collecting them vicariously through your boot bargains...

Keep 'em coming!

That's amazing! It just doesn't seem like their kind of car to me. How did you find that out?

Now I'm going to have to track down a pic of one.

Do you know if HW ever made an NSU Ro80?

Blunt Fronts, I don't know if you are aware but they do make 1:64 Stradas and Coupes and Barchettas. I have seen a few overseas. Minichamps makes (or made) a good Cinqiciento diecast as I saw a couple in London. $65 USD for 1:43. A bit pricey no? About the NS. Oh my god that would be AWESOME.

Check this page out:

Scroll down to the F's and find Fiat Ritmo. One of them has a little clickable icon that says IMG. Click it and voila, there's a pic.

And for the Corgi NSU, click here:

Just as yours never ceases to amaze me when it comes to slot cars!

If you're free the first weekend in August, three of us are heading up to Rhode Island for a special event:

Got room for one more! We're not taking my Mustang, obviously- four people in my car would be like seeing a bunch of college student cramming themselves into a phone booth or Volkswagen.
