Hello All

Im having a bit of trouble with a 5HP B&S engine on a air compressor, i start it and it runs and throttles normaly, but it will run some period of time 5 min 10min will slowly lose RPMs and dies...i can restart it and it will run again it will die again after a few minutes of runing..i really dont know what would cause this do you have any ideas folks.?

I had a similar problem with a Briggs 3hp. It had a pulse jet carb, that is one with a diaphram. I would think cleaning the carb and putting a kit in it.

But the Carb was freshly kited about 2 to 3 weeks ago....im not saying thats not the problem But i did fail to mention that in my first post

Before you put the kit in two weeks ago, what was the problem?

it wouldent start at all....:( some Yahoo my dad knows screwed him over when he asked him to rebuild the Carb instead of reduilding ours he rebuild (suposadly rebuilt) an old carb and stuck on it keeping ours, the carb the ass put on never ran right to begin with and finally stopped runing all togeather..i think somewhere along the way the breather was left off and most likly got water in the top of carb....I needed it to run so i had a fellow with a goood reputation for working on small engines take a look he kitted the carb, cleaned the tank and it ran fine for i guess 2 weeks, ran like a top so to speak them it just started this one day...

tank cap might not be venting , also the pick up tube might be split , or it might not be sealing good where the carburator screws to the tank

Screens on pickup tubes,could be partially clogged,secondary holding tank
could have pin holes,indication of bad diaphram or pin holes is the engine will run until one quarter of full tank is used then it will stop,until you fill tank completely full it will not run.

hum....would to much oil in engine case this.?...found out dad put oil in it other day while i wasent using it.... and i dont figure the meurment was ovely scientific...Also how much oil should it have it.? its just got the fill hole at botom like most other small briggs ive seen..how do you tell on those when its to full.?

Too much oil wouldn't..... way more then it can handle..... it'll make it smoke like heck though, possibly oil the filter....choking the engine out and foul the spark plug.
